Check raise

A check raise is a combination of moves consisting of a player first checking and then raising if a bet is made behind him.

Layout of a check raise:

Player A checks

Player B bets

Player A raises

A check raise can have many outcomes. It could be intentioned to trap the opponent. It also demonstrates strength and can be used as a bluff.

In some casinos and home games, check raises are considered impolite and are not allowed.
