Check-raise

A check-raise is a combination of moves consisting of a player first checking and then raising if a bet is made behind him.

Layout of a Check-raise:

Player A checks

Player B bets

Player A raises

A check raise can have many purposes. It could be to trap the opponent. It also demonstrates strength and can be used as a bluff.

In some casinos and homegames, check-raises are considered impolite and are not allowed.
