PokerStrategy.com: Hi, it would be great if you could give us a short personal introduction for our users.

johnnyrocket1: I'm Reese Newell, I am 24 years old and play under the screen name p12resh04 on both PokerStars and FullTilt. I also post on 2+2 under johnnyrocket and I am  johnnyrocket1 on PokerStrategy.com. I'm a recent Penn State University graduate with a BS in Industrial Engineering and a minor in Business.

I believe engineering helped me become the poker player I am today, as most of the problems I was asked in class had no specific answer, so it was my task to solve them as best I could.  That's exactly how I sum up winning poker. I'm currently traveling the world and plan to see every country the world has to offer me within the next 5 years if possible.

PokerStrategy.com: Since when is Poker a part of your life and what does it mean to you?

johnnyrocket1: I played in some home games with high school friends at the age of 16 I believe. I played casually there a few days a week, and then in the college dorms for a year. In Freshman year I played online sit n’ goes and broke even.  Sophomore year I began to make a little bit of money, but not much.

I had no bankroll management and turned 78 cents in to $20,000 or so only to lose most of it again.  The same ensued for a few years playing No Limit.  In my senior year I took off and really did well.  I think it was because I stopped listening to 2+2 and began to really think hard about the game for myself.

Then last year my poker career skyrocketed and has been going full steam ever since.

PokerStrategy.com: What has been the greatest success in your online poker career?

johnnyrocket1: The fact that I'm still around and have been making money for a few straight years. Most of those who make money in this game get passed over and fall off after a year or two at the top.

Out of the few players that really make substantial money playing poker, I'd guess 90% blow it elsewhere or invest poorly. I'm glad I’m not one of them.  I see poker as a means to a better future, where I plan on doing some kind of entrepreneurial venture.

"People refer to me as the Michael Jordan of video making"

New video producer: johnnyrocket1
PokerStrategy.com: Since when do you produce videos?

johnnyrocket1: I had produced over 50 videos for stoxpoker over 2 years, and then I temporarily retired.  People have lately been referring to me as the Michael Jordan of video making.  Hopefully my second time around is a lot stronger though, and not a huge decline.

PokerStrategy.com: What kind of games do you cover in your videos?

johnnyrocket1: I'll be playing short-handed to full-ring limit hold’ em. Any stakes from 5/10-50/100 will be covered in my videos.

PokerStrategy.com: What limits do you play yourself?

johnnyrocket1: I typically play from 8/16-100/200 HU-full ring limit, wherever I am making the highest hourly amount.  I also dabble in some 7-games for fun.

PokerStrategy.com: What can PokerStrategists expect from your videos? Which limits will you cover?

johnnyrocket1: They can expect someone they haven't seen before in videos.  I found most videos I saw not useful, because the player would only cover what came up and typically missed a lot of key spots.

I talk about all the different scenarios in every hand so the viewer is in essence seeing 10 videos in just 1.  This is extremely helpful for those looking to improve. I will cover 5/10-50/100 limit hold’ em.

PokerStrategy.com: Are you in touch with any other video producers of PokerStrategy.com? Is any collaboration planned?

johnnyrocket1: I am not, however the other limit coaches at PokerStrategy.com are limit hold’ em guys who I've always looked up to.  Hopefully this is my chance to learn from them, and work with them on eachother’s game in order to improve.

PokerStrategy.com: Thank you for the interview.

We hope to have given our members a brief but positive first impression of our new producer.

Enjoy johnnyrocket1's video premiere for PokerStrategy.com!
