Top 5 Tell-A-Friend Referral Tips From The Pros
Want to learn how some of our most successful Tell-A-Friend ambassadors make their money? We find out the best ways our community members make money from other people's play at the tables.
Hundreds of poker players have profited from the PokerStrategy.com Tell-A-Friend system - which we recently improved -, making money without risking a single chip, by referring friends to play through PokerStrategy.com partners.
Several players have even managed to turn the Tell-A-Friend system into a second career. With up to $500 commission per player referred, and 10% on any referrals made by players you have referred yourself.
Players like
Paradox2 &
thunderbird56 have enjoyed a lucrative passive income from Tell-A-Friend.So to help you make 2012 a profitable one by generating Tell-A-Friend revenue, we have compiled some of the best advice we have sourced from our 'TAF Pros', and from our Tell-A-Friend forum:
1. Talk With Your Friends
A trait all our successful referrers share is taking a hands-on approach to dealing with the people they refer. One of the big mistakes new referrers make is setting up their website and assuming that is the end of the process. Some new players will need help with the registration process, as not everyone has a strong understanding online poker.
If you make yourself available to help anyone in any way you can, a quick email or a Skype chat can be the difference that leads to a conversion.
Paradox2 shares this view:
"Not all users are technically savvy. Some of them do not even know how to use e-mail. Help and advise them, guide them. This is a win-win. Your visitors will receive their bonuses, and you will reap your rewards."
2. Supply Your Friends With Valuable Information
The process does not end at the point of registration, and the most successful TAF Pros are the ones who continue to give their referrals a chance to generate commission. They generate regular content or host community forums on their websites for example.Paradox2 has an email mailing list with all his players which he uses to remind them about all the latest promotions on PokerStrategy.com.
Just because a player didn't earn many StrategyPoints the first time they signed up doesn't mean they never will, so don't give up on them prematurely.
PokerStrategy.com has so many great regular incentives to play, make sure to bookmark our Promotions & Freerolls Page so you can keep your players informed on the benefits they can receive.
3. Create A Website
The aim of TaF is to bring new players to PokerStrategy.com, and the best way to do that is to have a website where you can put our banners and referral links.Luckily, you do not have to be an expert webmaster to create your own website these days, and thanks to sites like blogger, WordPress, and Tumblr your site can be up and running in minutes.
TAF expert Thunderbird56 suggests that a good website is the most important thing you need to be successful at TAF:
"There are many ways to promote something, such as posting on forums, sharing on Facebook etc... But to gain huge success, having a website is a must. I soon realised that and started building my personal portal. In the early days, it was just a bunch of simple HTML pages. Now it is a beautiful site on which PokerStrategy.com is the core content."
4. Learn a little bit of SEO

SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a website in a search engine. The higher ranked your website is on a search engine, the more visitors it will receive from people making searches.
The subject of SEO can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. At its core, it is about effective cross linking between the most important pages on your website and writing content that includes frequently searched keyword phrases (e.g.: "free 50 poker bankroll"). This makes your your website is relevant to the searches that find it.
TAF Pro Paradox2 of Russia is an expert in SEO, which has helped him turn Tell-A-Friend into a career: "Your website needs professional internal and external SEO-optimization. This is what makes it automated. Without quality traffic your website will be useless."
5. Use Multiple Channels
It doesn't just stop at your website, many of our successful referrers also have a Twitter or Facebook page for their website. Not only is this a great way to advertise your site and reach a wider audience, it is also a great way to interact with your referrals.Social Media, Skype, forum signatures, email signatures, business cards, flyers, posters and much more - our most successful sub affiliates use every channel available to them to get their links seen.

What is Tell-A-Friend?
It’s a simple idea: you recommend us to your friends and earn money for it.For you, it’s an easy way to benefit from the success of PokerStrategy.com, and for us, it’s the most effective way of marketing, because your friends know to trust your judgement and therefore you act as our best ambassador.
Your personal referrer link. If people sign up through it, we know you brought them to us.
The recent improvements
- New tiers: you earn up to $500 for every member you refer.
- Sub-affiliation: you earn an additional 10% of all the Tell-A-Friend earnings of members you bring.
- Subscription revenue share: you earn 10% of the revenue if the members you bring buy points subscriptions.
The new tiers
With the new tiers, you can earn up to 5 times more than before. If your referred member reaches 20,000 StrategyPoints (that's $4,000 rake at William Hill for example), you get the full $500.As you can see in the graph below, the new system is much better for all players you refer that earn more than 100 StrategyPoints (that's just $20 rake at William Hill - which is easy to reach for everyone who plays for a little while).

Hey guys. If you are thinking about setting a Wordpress blog, check out Wordpress.com (it's free and you don't need your own server). With Wordpress.org you need to install and manage software on a server.#5

i got about 2500$ from old program, but almost all players were registered on Full Tilt. We know which situation is with Full Tilt, and players stoped played there and earning points, so no earnings anymore. i didnt refered noone yet with new program. with number of referals that i refered than, on new program i would probably earn much more than i earned than.#6

"Paradox2 has an email mailing list with all his players". That's nice, how do I get one too? :PI can see how taking a hands-on approach helps with getting referrals, but it seems that we get less and less info about people we refer, not more. We can't even see their nicknames anymore :(

#7 we have introduced the feature you mention in order to protect the privacy of new members. In the vast majority of cases, members will personally know the people they have referred and so they will not need any more data than the first/last letter of their username in order to identify their friend.
If you do have your own website with referral links, it is important to enable your visitors to opt-in to receive messages from you. Otherwise they may get very annoyed with receiving what they consider to be spam.
