Aussie Millions Main Event: Bjorn Li Heads Final, $250,000 Challenge

No final table for Phil Ivey in the main event, but he still managed to make one in the $250,000 Challenge the same day, as the Aussie Millions reaches the penultimate day.

12 became 7 in the 5th day of the Aussie Millions Main Event. Elsewhere, the $250,000 Challenge will be playing down to a winner no matter how late it gets - and what a line up it is.

Main Event Day 5 highlights

12 become 7 - A short second-to-last day in Melbourne as just five players were needed to bust to get to the seven handed final table tomorrow. Everyone coming back is guaranteed at least AUD$170,000, with a first prize of AUD$1,600,000.

No Ivey or Nelson - All eyes were on two players going into day 5, former champion Lee Nelson, and greatest player in the world Phil Ivey. It was a very short day for Ivey, as he was the first one out of the door after returning with the shortest stack (A short enough day for him to buy into the $250,000 Challenge, more on that in a moment).

New Zealander Lee 'Final Table' Nelson almost lived up to his nickname, but fell short by one, bubbling the final table in 9th place, and pocketing AUD$125,000 for his efforts.

Bjorn Li leads the way - All of which has set up a final table of seven hopefuls who will be returning to the action in a few hours time. Bjorn Li is leading the way with over 4.7 million chips, but it is still a very close final seven chip wise, so there is still everything to play for.

$250,000 Challenge playing down to a winner

The second of two six-figure side events started today in Melbourne, this one with a whopping buy-in of AUD$250,000. 16 players in total entered the event, with some of the early casualties including Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Sam Trickett, Erik Seidel, and Jason Mercier.

Three spots will pay out, with a cool $2 million for the winner, $1.2 million to the runner up, and $800,000 for third place.

The tournament directors have decided that they will play down to a winner no matter what today. At the time of writing it is 3AM in Melbourne, and there are six of the best players in the world remaining in the hunt. We will leave you with the chip counts as at 3AM Melbourne time, and bring you the winner, along with the main event winner, tomorrow:
