Aussie Millions: Tyron Krost Keeps the Title in Australia

Sydneysider Tyron Krost keeps the title in Australia for the second straight year. He walks away AUD 2 million richer after beating 745 other participants.

The 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event attracted a total of 746 players, generating a AUD 7.46 million prize pool.

The high profile AUD 10,500 buy-in event attracted some of poker's biggest names: Joe Hachem, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen and Tom Dwan, all signed up to be a part of the action.

In the end however, the coveted title was won by online qualifier Tyron Krost. En-route to his AUD 2 million pay check, Krost bested a final table cast that consisted of 2007 WSOPE champ Annette Obrestad, Sorel Mizzi and Peter Jetten, who have all claimed more than $1 million in career tournament winnings.

The proceedings at the final table started off slowly and it took close to four hours before the first player was eliminated. It was Krost who started it all by eliminating Stephen Shelly in 8th place. After that, he was also responsible for the eliminations of Obrestad in 7th, Jetten in 5th and Mizzi in 3rd.

After busting long time chip leader Mizzi, Krost went into the final heads-up duel with Frederik Jensen holding a 2.5 to 1 chip lead. Interestingly enough, both of the final two players had qualified for the event through PartyPoker.

Jensen found it hard to deal with the relentless pressure of Krost's play and he was eliminated less than an hour into the match. In the final hand, Jensen had gone all-in after both players hit top pair on a flop. Jensen held but Krost had him out-kicked with .

The final two cards did not help Jensen, and Krost was crowned the 2010 Aussie Million champion after close to 17 hours on the final table. For his part, Jensen cashed in a prize of AUD 1.1 million.
