Daily Rewind - Galfond Vlog, Hansen in Macau, World Cup of Poker

In today's Daily Rewind we check out Phil Galfond's video blog venture and get the latest from the World Cup of Poker, plus Gus Hansen's exploits in Macau and another Daily Signoff.

Help Galfond Blog

Although he announced the end of his video making days with Bluefire Poker a few weeks ago, Phil Galfond hasn’t strayed too far from his webcam.

The high stakes regular has decided to give video blogging a try and he’s asking the poker playing public for their ideas. In his first video, released yesterday, Galfond outlined some of his tentative plans for the site, but also urged players to send in their questions.

For his opening question Phil explained how he’s now managing to grind out a living at lower limits in the wake of Black Friday. As the series goes on he will attempt to answer a mixture of strategy and lifestyle questions.

Germany Top World Cup of Poker

As the fun in the sun continues at the PCA, there was a shock yesterday as the reigning World Cup of Poker Champions, Italy, hit the felt.

After disappointing finishes in rounds 1 and 2, the Italians couldn’t rally themselves for the Round of Three event and exited in 9th place. The string of poor performances left them propping up the leaderboard with 55 points, before they eventually exited the competition.

At the other end of the table, Germany put in another fantastic performance to edge out Japan at the top of the table. Klaus Hornchurch took the honours in the final event of the day to give the Germans 105 points, just 1 point ahead of their Japanese rivals.

Play resumes today when one team will be crowned the World Cup of Poker Champions.

High Stakes Corner

Gus Hansen has recently blogged about his exploits in the Macau Big Game.

Coming off the back of another 24 hour session, Hansen admitted that his latest round at the table was more of a rollercoaster than usual. He was, however, the fortunate recipient of a cold deck.

With 3 players all-in, Gus held pocket aces and managed to fade any nasty surprises to scoop a huge pot. It was a case of easy come easy go soon after though, as he found himself all-in with jacks against queens.

Although Gus has neglected to mention the amounts exchanging hands we can assume from previous reports that million dollar pots won’t be out of the norm.

Daily Signoff

Inspired by a recent forum post, we’ve decided to go into the WSOP archives and dust off one of the most colourful players to grace the felt.

Elix Powers certainly made his presence known in the Limit Hold’em event when he pushed Jim McManus to the edge, eventually getting him to call with queen high - or jack high if you’re Elix Powers. Enjoy.
