Daily Rewind - Hellmuth Losing Cash, Dusty Back to Golf, Negreanu Meets Absinthe

As the poker world wakes up to a 2012 and the post-NYE hangovers begin to kick in, it's a mix of fond memories and optimistic outlooks in today's Daily Rewind. Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Dusty Schmidt have all been ringing in the New Year with past experiences and future aspirations. All that plus another winning session for Islidur1 and another hot shot.

NYE Poker Tweets

It was a night of fun and frolics across the world as the sun set on 2011 and 2012 broached the horizon, but that didn’t stop Phil Hellmuth indulging in some cash game action before the partying began. After somewhat of a revival in 2011, “The Poker Brat” decided to take a stab at the $400/$800 mixed game at the Aria.

As it transpired it wasn’t Hellmuth’s finest choice of 2011 as he quickly dropped $10,000 making it two losing cash game sessions in a row. Mr Hellmuth didn’t let that minor blip dampen his spirits though as he went on to tweet about his thanks for the year: “Happy New Year!! I'm thankful for 2011 cause: 1 my family is healthy and whole; 2 I had a great year in poker; 3 I made great new friends.”

Hellmuth wasn’t the only poker player hitting the tweet machine as 2011 came to a close. “Kevmath” also bid his faithful Twitter followers a fond farewell by highlighting that he'd tweeted a staggering 13,000 times in 2011.

Dusty Gets Back in the Swing

He’s the ultimate grinder, a pokerstrategy.com coach and soon to be golf star. A keen golfer in his youth, Dusty Schmidt took to the virtual felt after a heart attack ended his career on the fairway.

The ending was a happy one, though, as Dusty made a name for himself in the poker industry as well as millions of dollars in profits. However, following the events of Black Friday, Dusty has decided to return to his first love and dedicate himself to golf.

In his blog he outlined his thoughts, stating: “I came to the realization that I love golf infinitely more than I love playing poker. With that, I have decided to return to golf and use all of what poker has taught me to try and become the best I can be (whatever that is) at the game of golf.”

Negreanu Circus Boy

Daniel Negreanu is often the entertainer at the poker table but the Canadian was the one being entertained when he met the cast of the Cirque du Soleil’s hit show: Absinthe.

Before Negreanu headed out for his New Year’s celebrations he took a moment to tweet his latest celebrity encounter. After that it was a case of, in his words, “showering and sexifying” before toasting 2012. 

High Stakes News

The tail end of 2011 has certainly been an eventful one for Viktor “Isildur1” Blom as he managed to win another huge sum at the felt yesterday.

Over the course of 3,026 hands the young Swede notched up $211,920 in profit, which was miles ahead of the second biggest winner of the day mTw-DaviN who scooped $85,898.
