Dusk Till Dawn's record breaking tournament

January has been an enormous month for poker, what with the PCA and the Aussie Millions taking place back to back. Proving that poker is not just about the high stakes events, Dusk Till Dawn in the United Kingdom have broken the European poker attendance record. Their €60 Grand Prix event featured seven day 1s and a €100,000 guarantee. This was enough to entice 2,089 players from up and down the UK.

The previous record holder was from just a short drive away, as last year the Grosvenor Goliath in Coventry, United Kingdom, hosted 1,765 players. The eventual winner was Michael Webber, who turned his €60 buy-in into a €21,222.50 pay day.

James Akenhead wins Sunday Million

November Niner and Poker Million champion James Akenhead is back in the winners' circle today, after taking down the PokerStars Sunday Million. 7,125 players attended the event, which took place in the middle of the popular TCOOP series, and it boasted a first place prize of $213,750 for the eventual winner.

Although a prolific figure on the live circuit, Akenhead is by his own admission not a regular online tournament player. However, there is no doubt that his screen name of 'Asprin1' will now become a very recognisable name at the tables of PokerStars.

According to the PokerStars Blog, his path to victory was made easier thanks to a 20 million-chip miss-click. Instead of raising to 800k with 9 million stack, he accidentally raised to 8 million with king-ten. Quickly put in for the rest of his stack by the pocket queens of 'pnp23', Akenhead spiked a king on the flop - to which he simply typed 'oops?'.

Elsewhere on PokerStars, EPT Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis took down TCOOP event #16 for $68,676.

Tony G finding action for Jungleman

He could not find action in Prague, but Adminjunglemandan might still get a taker for his $100k challenge. Tony G seems to think he can find an opponent for Daniel Cates in Melbourne at the Aussie Millions, according to this interview on the PartyPoker Blog:

Talking anonymous tables with Jonas Odman

Last week, B2B poker magazine InsidePokerBusiness conducted an interview with Bodog Vice President Jonas Odman on their recent decision to make all tables anonymous. The main reason cited was to stop players from using automated tools and tracking websites, and thus, protecting the recreational players. Odman goes on to say:

"They are bad because they are helping winning players win money from net depositing players quicker than they otherwise would. Winning players will still win without them but at a slower rate and that gives the net depositing players more entertainment for their money, and that in turn will reduce churn and increase second deposits which are so vital to the eco-system."
