EPT Deauville Day 1a: French Elite Fill the Tables
Players flocked to Deauville, France for the PokerStars EPT Deauville this week. 339 players began on Day 1a, and 221 of them will return for Day 2. Find out what happened.
Deauville, France is known as a beautiful and historic city. For the same reasons, it is home to many of France's wealthiest individuals. With so many rich people around, it is a great spot for a poker tournament.

The PokerStars EPT Deauville began yesterday, and 339 players paid €5,300 to participate. They won't know how much cash they're playing for until Day 1b registration closes, but last year the first-place prize was €880,000.
What happened?
• The Leaders - The top two stacks from Day 1a were nearly identical. Former EPT Tallinn High Roller champ Kristijonas Andrulis has the lead with 162,600 chips, but Philippe Ma is right behind him with 162,200.
• Who still has chips? - Although it is still possible for some interesting players to register for this event on Day 1b, very few well-known players are doing well so far. James Dempsey finished in 79th place overall. Alexander Dovzhenko, Kara Scott, and Dermot Blain are still alive as well, but none of them have big stacks. Native Frenchman Arnaud Mattern will also return on Day 2, but he'll have to nurse an 11 big blind stack to stay alive.
• Biggest Names Bust - Several of the most famous professional players who played on Day 1a couldn't manage to make it through the day. The unfortunate pros included Jonathan Duhamel, Constant Rijkenberg, Shaun Deeb, Martin Jacobson and new PokerStars Team Pro member Pierre Neuville.
Day 1b will begin today at 12:00 CET.
