Elio Fox Wins WSOPE Main Event!

American Elio Fox is the 2011 WSOPE Main Event champion. He defeated Chris Moorman heads-up to win his first WSOP bracelet and €1.4 million. Find out how it happened and how this impacts James Bord and Ben Lamb.

593 players entered the €10,400 WSOPE Main Event, and after 5 days of play just 1 was left standing.

Elio Fox was that 1, and for his achievement he received €1,400,000 and a WSOP bracelet to take back to his home in New York. Fox defeated a difficult final table and Chris 'Moorman1' Moorman in heads-up play to ice his victory.

So what does this mean?

Elio Fox is WSOPE Main Event Champion- This one is obvious, but important enough that we couldn't leave it off the list.
Ben Lamb is WSOP POY- Shawn Buchanan fell short of the top 2 spots he needed to stay alive in the POY race by finishing in 6th place. While Chris Moorman came in 2nd, he needed to win the tournament to challenge Lamb. Therefore, regardless of his performance at the WSOP ME final table in November, Ben Lamb has clinched WSOP Player of the Year.
James Bord Has to Pay Up- Bord promised publicly that he would refund all losing bets on the WSOPE Main Event at matchbook.com, up to $500 each, if an American won. He stated that an American wouldn't win because "Europeans are now far superior." Elio Fox is an American, and we'll soon see quite how much money Bord has lost because of it.

Final Table Action

The final table of this event was full of extremely high-quality play due to all 8 players having strong tournament experience. Despite a table full of aggressive players, very few of the large hands were bad beats. Several very weak hands did reach showdowns, however.

The first player to bust was Max Silver, who went out extremely early in the day with pocket Jacks to Chris Moorman's Ace-King. It took quite a while for the next player to hit the rail, but Jake Cody finally bit the dust.

After Cody dropped, the bustouts flowed fairly consistently until just Elio Fox and Chris Moorman were left. Fox had a chip lead and slowly worked away at Moorman's stack, and eventually the two players got it all-in preflop. Fox's Ace-DTs was ahead of Moorman's Ah7s, and it stayed that way when the board ran 6s4s3h6d8h.

With that hand, Elio Fox became the 2011 WSOPE Main Event Champion, and he has the bracelet, cash, and respect that come with that prestigious title.
