Head of EPT Raid Gang Arrested

According to the German news agency dpa, the head of the group that raided the EPT Berlin event and got away with €240,000 in cash has been arrested during the past weekend.

After previously arresting five of his associates, German law enforcement authorities have now arrested 31 year-old Mohammed Abou-C., who is reported to be the head of the group that raided the EPT Berlin event.

On March 6th 2010, several masked men stormed the tournament are of the EPT Berlin held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in the German capital. After a turmoil with local security staff, the group eventually fled with roughly €242,000. The five men that had been previously arrested were no strangers to the local police due to previous charges and were arrested rather shortly after the incident. They also gave the tips that led to the arrest of Mohammed Abou-C.

The head of group, member of a well-known Arab family that has already been raising police awareness in the past, is reported to be a cousin of German rap star "Bushido"'s manager. Ironically, Mohammed Abou-C. starred as a street-level criminal in Bushido's movie "Zeiten ändern dich" ("Time is changing you") that was in theatres across Germany earlier this year.

Before the raid, Mohammed Abou-C. was a participant in the EPT Berlin event and was at table of German TV personality and book author Charlotte Roche for a while (see picture below). He busted two days before the raid.

The stolen cash is still missing to a large extent, as a mere €4,000 has been returned by one of the arrested individuals so far.
