High Stakes May Ranking: durrrr Takes The Front

Tom "durrrr" Dwan is leading the May ranking with over $2 million in profit across the online high stakes tables. The loser of the month turned out to be Gus Hansen, going down by nearly $1.5 million.

Tom DwanMay has certainly been one of the most intense months this year when it comes to action at the online high stakes tables. Top pros exchanged pots worth over $500,000, bad beats and sick comebacks were not missing, and in the center of it all stood one man, Tom "durrrr" Dwan (pictured right).

Dwan managed to record an amazing profit of over $2 million, mostly coming from PLO and Mixed HA games. He played a total of 19,743 hands in 211 sessions and even though he had some huge swings, apparently the last ones went in his favour.

The second on the list of the winners is Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, who recorded another successful month. Though this time he earned only $568,273 compared to his profit of over $1.5 million in April. Same as Dwan, most of his profit came from PLO and Mixed HA.

David "MR B 2 U SON" Benyamine recorded a similiar profit as Ziigmund, harvesting a little bit over $500,000 in May. Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond is fourth with $440,444 in profit, which makes May a month completely dominated by Dwan, as Ziigmund, Benyamine and Galfond together didn't earn as much as he did.

hansen leads the dark side
Gus HansenIn the shadows of the winners in May lie the losers who are mostly responsible for likes of Dwan making such high profits in the first place. The top 10 list of these losers is led by Gus Hansen (pictured left), a regular visitor of the negative side of poker.

Hansen lost nearly $1.5 million with most of it going down the drain at the PLO tables. His losses were spread across 11,632 hands in 174 sessions. Hansen managed to win sick amounts of cash in a matter of days, but his losses on the other days more than covered for that.

Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro continued his fall from April and recorded an even greater loss in May. It took him 9,634 hands in 130 sessions to lose over $1 million. Unless he manages to climb back up in July and upcoming months, he could very well find himself on the list of top 10 online losers by the end of 2009.

A new face to the losers list is Phil Ivey. He has been doing well so far this year, but apparently May was not his month, as he went down by $924,660. Sessions with Dwan probably had their fingers in such a huge loss for one of the most stable online players at the moment in terms of dodging big swings and recording profit on regular basis.

Patrik Antonius also found himself on the top 10 losers list of May, but that shouldn't concern him much, considering he is up by almost $500,000 against Dwan in the durrrr Challenge.

With all the action going on in the World Series of Poker, July will probably be missing the activity we have become used to over the past months. Nevertheless, top pros have proved times and times again that they are always hungry for more action, which means July should still see plenty of epic matches at the online high stakes tables.
