Gus Hansen (pictured right) used to be one of the most aggressive players you could run into. However, his latest appearance on the High Stakes Poker series tells a different story.

The Great Dane has started choosing his spots more carefully, especially with the likes of Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Phil Ivey at the table. While the latter two are among the most active players on the show, the spotlight was on Hansen in the latest episode.

Hansen gets Hoivold into trouble

Despite being extra careful, Hansen couldn't resist calling with 6h3s in a hand which saw multiple limpers before him - durrrr, Eli Elezra, Andreas Hoivold and Daniel Negreanu had all joined the hand for the minimum price.

The flop came 3hTs6c and Negreanu quickly checked his top pair with Tc7c. Hansen decided to slowplay his two pair and checked as well. None of the remaining players seemed interested in taking a shot at the pot and the action moved to the turn.

The turn brought the Qh and Negreanu checked again. Hansen saw his chance to bet here and fired $11,100 into an $18,100 pot, and durrrr called with his Qs4s. Elezra thought for a second about his flush draw with 8h5h, but concluded a fold would be the best choice.

Hoivold, on the other hand, decided he had been pushed around for long enough and put in a raise to $50,000 with his AhQc. At this point he was already down by over $100,000 and saw this as a chance to get back into the game. As he saw Hansen pondering on what to do, he quickly commented: "I'm not folding."

After grimacing and checking his cards as well as Hoivold's stack, Hansen announced he was all-in. durrrr got out of the way and Hoivold quickly called. They agreed to run the river twice and Hoivold missed his outs both times. Hansen scooped the $190,000 pot while Hoivold concluded his High Stakes Poker debut and left the table empty handed.

Jason Mercier joins the next episode

Besides Hansen dispatching a fellow Scandinavian, this episode of High Stakes Poker also featured Minieri taking on Elezra as well as numerous other clashes between the pros. However, the action will heat up a few more degrees in the next episode when Negreanu and durrrr tangle in a massive pot.

The following episode also sees see a newcomer at the table, as Jason Mercier takes his shot on High Stakes Poker. It is safe to say that this season has gathered the toughest line-up ever and the action seems to get better and better with each passing episode.
