Luck Abandons Jonathan Little at the WPT Legends of Poker
Yesterday PokerStrategy.com video producer Jonathan Little ranked second in the chip count and the final table seemed so close, but a runner runner flush has now ended his hopes of winning the tournament.
Since Friday, our MTT video producer
JonathanLittle was playing the $5,000 World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship Event as part of the Legends of Poker in the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California. The winner takes home $750,000, while the player who finishes second gets $370,000.
A total of 462 players paid the buy-in and Jonathan Little had a good run in the event. He spent much of it as the chip leader, but was overtaken towards the end of the day yesterday. At that time, he still had over 100 BBs.
The two time WPT champion didn't make it to the final table because he lost his entire stack against current chip leader Andrew Frankenberger in one hand.
The board came
and Frankenberger called Little's bet. On the turn, Little check/called the
and again checked the
on the river, remarking that he didn't like that card at all. Nonetheless he called his opponent's bet, who revealed
and had the flush. Little mucked his hand and placed 12th.
"On monster tilt"
Jonathan Little therefore had to leave the tournament earlier than expected, but at least got to take $24,000 to Las Vegas. He was still frustrated and posted the following message on Twitter: "Ran into runner runner flush of the table clown twice. Guess I just suck." He later added: "Flying to LAS. Wheeeee. Somehow won $1.500 online in the airport despite being on monster tilt. Shiiiiippp."
In the video interview he gave after the tournament day, Frankenberger comments on the hand that eliminated Jonathan Little from the tournament and reveals that Little's reads had been misleading him the entire day. You can watch the interview here on the WPT homepage.
The remaining participants will play the final table today. Each of the six players has already won a guaranteed prize of $63,000. Here's the number of chips each player currently has:
