The second starting day of the 2008 WSOP's Main Event is over. 1,158 players started, 615 will return to the Rio on Day 2. Amongst the survivors are also some Germans.

Few Participants on Independence Day

With only 1,158 participants Day 1B was a bit disappointing. After Day 1A the officials were still hopeful to surpass last year's number of participants of 6,358. Thus with the 1,297 starters from Day 1A, a total of 2,455 players participated in the first two of four starting days. This number will probably more than double up in the next two days. But it remains to be seen if the number of participants diminishes for the second time in a row, or if the trend from the side events continues, which mostly have been more frequented than last year's events.

Again many Pros at the Tables

The American Independence Day did not stop the pros either. Amongst others, you were able to see Vanessa Rousso, Bill Edler, Shaun Deeb, Lee Watkinson, Andy Black, Daniel Negreanu and many more at the tables.

With 142,400 chips Robert Mizrachi was able to place himself on rank 3 of the chip counts for Day 1B. Ahead of him is Brian Schaedlich with 160,725 chips. Chip leader is Ben Sarnoff with 177,500 chips.

The German Participants

Some players from Germany also participated again. Alexander Meidinger was the most successful one, extending his stack to 97,100 chips. He is closely followed by Martin Kläser with 96,900 chips. Ralf Pelzner (60,050), Johannes "Strabmann" Strassmann (49,750), Jan Heitmann (41,350), Christiane Klecz (25,425), Mirco Tauber (19,175), Konstantin Bücherl (16,900) and Alexander Jung (11,375) also survived the day. The Austrian Markus Golser was able to quadruple his starting stack to 82,600 chips.

Sebastian Ruthenberg, Stefan Jedlicka and Erich Kollman fell victim to Day 1B. Sven Runcke and PokerStrategist Nico Behling did also participate, but they could not be found in the chip count.
