Phil Ivey Captures Event 8 Title

Phil Ivey managed to finish the $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball Event, besting a field of 147 players. Thanks to his accomplishment, he receives the famous WSOP bracelet and $96,367 in cash.

WSOP Event 8147 players went to the Event 8 tables initially, with 35 of them remaining in the final day. However, only one of them could claim the bracelet and that winner proved to be none other than Phil Ivey, who also earned a cash prize of $96,367.

The 7-player final table had Ivey in 6th place, definitely not a favourite to win the event in terms of chips. Nevertheless, that did not stop him from claiming the title, the bracelet and the first place cash prize.

The final table chip leader, John Monnette, was the one to reach the heads-up phase against Phil Ivey, not seeing Yan Chen getting eliminated by Ivey.

The hand that busted Chen had him go all-in from the button, only to get called by Ivey. Chen showed a jack-ten low, but when Ivey showed 9x-4x-3x-2x, things started looking bad for him.

When Ivey pulled a 5x, it was all over for Chen, who would finish in third place, earning $38,892.

After Chen was eliminated, the play moved to heads-up, where Phil Ivey would meet John Monnette, who held a 6:5 chip ratio.

However, as the play progressed, Ivey slowly got himself in the lead, eventually crushing Monnette and claiming his sixth WSOP bracelet.

It took more than three hours to reach a conclusion, and that happened when Monnette finally moved all-in, only to get called by Ivey. Monnette showed 9x-7x-5x-2x, while Ivey had 7x-6x-4x-2x. Monnette turned over another 7x, which means that he was drawing dead and Ivey turned over a 5x, thus winning the hand and the Event 8 title.

Thanks to his win in the $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball Event, Ivey now has six bracelets, the first one since 2005 actually.
