Poker Hall Of Fame Adds New Names
On November 9th, the Poker Hall of Fame will induct two more people. Duane Tomko and Henry Orenstein will become members number 36 and 37.
During the course of the WSOP finale, the honour ceremony will take place in the Penn & Teller Theater
of the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino. It will be accompanied by a look back on the WSOP 2008.
Duane 'Dewey' Tomko
Duane Tomko (picture on the left) is amongst the most known faces in Las Vegas. Since 1979, he cashed an awe-inspiring 44 times at the WSOP so far, and won three bracelets in the process. The first one came in 1979 in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Event. Bracelets number two and three were picked up in 1984, when he won the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Event and the $10,000 Deuce to
Seven Draw Championship.Tomko already played the Main Event of the WSOP 35 times. Twice he only barely missed the title. In 1982, he finished second out of 104 participants behind Jack Straus who managed a sensational comeback with only one chip and still won the tourney. In 2001, history repeated itself – back then with 613 participants – and Tomko had to submit to Carlos Mortensen who busted Tomko's slow-played aces.
Henry Orenstein
Henry Orenstein's (picture on the right) name recognition should be similar to Tomko's. The inventor of the hole card camera and producer of the popular TV format High Stakes Poker made the poker sport accessible to a broader audience with his revolutionary ideas, and was decisive for the acceptance in the media.Especially the hole card cameras made poker interesting for TV and so ignited the still on-going boom. His second big poker project, High Stakes Poker, brought the cash game to the screen for the first time, and showed that not only tournaments are interesting for the viewers.
In 1996, Orenstein won the $5,000 Seven Card Stud Event and thus his first and, so far, only WSOP bracelet.
