Everyone aged 21 and higher can now take part in Harrah's nomination process for the 2010 Poker Hall of Fame. The nomination phase is taking place on the WSOP page and you can send yours by August 31.

Once the nomination phase has come to an end, Harrah's will take the top 10 nominations and send them to the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council on September 1. The committee that will decide this year's inductees will be comprised of 16 existing Hall of Fame members and a number of poker media representatives.

Two players can automatically become part of this elite group if they earn more than 50% of the total votes combined. In 2009, the requirement was 75% and only PartyPoker's Mike Sexton (pictured right) was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will be help at the RIO Casino in Las Vegas, during the WSOP Main Event final table.

There are five main criteria for the Poker Hall of Fame:
  • A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
  • He or she must have played at the high stakes
  • The player must have played consistently well, showing skill and earning the respect of his/her peers
  • The player must have stood the test of time
  • For those that are not poker players, they must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results

Last year, Tom "durrrr" Dwan gained a sizeable number of nominations but was not inducted, given the fact that his age came against criterion #4. Other notable nominations from 2009 included the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein.
