The gambling metropolis Macau

Macau (sometimes also Macao), often called the »Las Vegas of the East« or a bit more classical as the »Monte Carlo of the Orient«, doesn't have to fear the competition of Las Vegas at all for quite a while.

While Vegas struggles with a declining demand for years, the boom in Macau continues unchecked. The turn-over and revenues via gambling surpass those of Las Vegas by far already, and almost every big Las Vegan casino operators have even bigger and glitzier casinos and hotels in Macau than it is the case in Las Vegas.

Poker still a minor matter in Macau

Despite all the records, poker still plays a minor part in Macau. The gamblers in Macau are rather going for the slot machines and horse-racing bets than the card games. PokerStars brought the first international major to Macau in the course of the APPT and has since successfully lobbied for a relaxing of regulations for private card rooms. With the own poker room they now have created an ideal location for the next APPT Macau and once again delivered a pioneering feat.
