Aussie Millions - Rubie takes down Event 1

The 2012 Aussie Millions is now in full swing and just hours ago crowned its first event winner of the series.

Home grown pro Aussie Brendon "brendoor" Rubie was the last man standing in Event One, a $1000 NL affair for which he wins $200,000.

There's a small break now until the 19th January when the $1000NL 6 max kicks off.

The $10,000 Main Event runs from the 22nd-28th January followed by the $100,000 and $250,000 buy-in challenges on the 22nd and 27th January respectively.

High stakes corner

The past 24 hours have seen "arbianight" back on song at the $100/$200 PLO tables, booking a win for over $100,000 to make him Sunday's most successful grinder.

It was most certainly a day to forget for Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky who dropped $132,275 in just 453 hands according to HSDB.

Galfond calls for change

Phil Galfond's new blog has taken up a fair amount of space in the headlines this week, and his latest entry is no different.

The high stakes wonderkind seems to be devoting a good chunk of his time playing diplomat these days, as he calls for changes to the online game, which has in his opinion "changed for the worse."

Galfond throws up a number of suggestions to counteract problems with heads-up cash games, addresses the disadvantages of tracking sites and debates the merits of player anonymity.

His suggestion for "must-move" tables has already provoked discussion amongst the poker community and PokerStars have acknowledged Galfond's ideas via their Twitter.

It will be interesting to see how much of an effect Galfond can have on the poker companies to implement such changes.

Peru crowned World Champions

It's not every day that you get to say that Peru are World Champions.

Today, this sentence rings true, as Peru snatched victory from The Netherlands heads-up at the PCA last night to take home the World Championship of Poker.

The World Cup consisted of a series of short handed and full ring sit-n-gos, one MTT and a number of heads-up matches.

While the prize money doesn't perhaps reflect on the prestige of the title, when all was said and done, Team Peru was left smiling with a winner's cheque for $90,000 and the title of World Champions for 2012.
