The Daily Rewind: Doyle on Regulation, Time Tourneys, Americas Win Caesars Cup
Today we hear from the Godfather of poker, Doyle Brunson, who charts the changes he has seen to the game and his thoughts on regulation. We take a peek at PokerStars latest invention, and we recap on a memorable win for Phil Hellmuth at the Caesars Cup.
The Daily Rewind is your one-stop-shop for a sharp review of the day in poker. Join us here for a mix of the latest news and a more irreverent insight into the poker world. Today we discovered the following topics for you:
Doyle calls for regulation
Often referred to as the 'Godfather of Poker', Doyle Brunson has seen it all. "Texas Dolly" grew up playing as a travelling cardsharp, sharing bankrolls with fellow players and living his life on the edge, often playing in dangerous underground games around the United States.
The game has changed beyond recognition since those days, and players now can play live poker in a safe, protected environment. Brunson is candid about the need for online regulation, something he addresses in the interview below.
PokerStars call the clock – Time Tourneys are here
This week PokerStars came out with another interesting release. Many of us simply don't have the time to play a long MTT so the boffins at 'Stars HQ have come up with a solution; Time Tourneys.
Put simply, Time Tourneys run for a set amount of time, and instead of the conventional MTT which finishes when one player has all the chips, these tournaments distribute payouts by way of chip counts after a certain time has elapsed.
There are tourneys ranging from fifteen minutes to three hours and across a variety of buy-in levels. It looks like PokerStars have widened the appeal of multi-table tournaments yet again!
Caesars Cup – Hellmuth leads Americas to victory
It was a case of wily experience conquering over youthful exuberance yesterday as Phil Hellmuth led his Americas team to victory over Bertrand Grospellier's European side.
First up, Jason Mercier and Ben Lamb teamed up to take on Tony G. and Jake Cody. The format was interesting this time out, with each team's two players using the same stack and same hand but alternating players on each street of action. Mercier and Lamb came out on top and chalked up first blood to team Americas.
The second match saw a slightly different format, where each team played the same stack, but played alternate hands. Hellmuth and Negreanu took on Gus Hansen and Max Lykov and this time it was Europe who came out winners to draw the match level.
The third game saw a straight heads-up encounter between "ElkY" and Johnny Chan. In the end, Chan booked the win after winning a big flip to take Team Americas back in front.
The final match saw Phil Hellmuth take on Maxim Lykov. Depsite getting off to a sluggish start, Team Americas captain Hellmuth managed to grind back Lykov and confirmed victory for Team Americas to level the Caesars Cup score to one each.
Not only does Hellmuth have bragging rights this time round, but also winner’s rights to host the tournament on home soil next time out.

High stakes corner
It was another successful 24 hours in the life of Richard "nutsinho" Lyndaker as he managed to book a healthy $112,135 win at the high stakes NL tables on PokerStars, according to HSDB.
Rarely does the $200/$400 NL game run and it was here where Lyndaker did the most damage. The player made to suffer most was "Lagerborg" who was taken for over $80,000 in just 60 hands.
