PokerStars "We Are Poker" campaign launches

PokerStars have launched their latest global TV advertising campaign this week.

The confidently titled "We Are Poker" campaign sees some of Team PokerStars Pro in a variety of guises, including Liv Boeree wielding an enormous whip.

It's a bold, atmospheric statement from the global leader in poker, and we await the next instalment with interest.

High stakes corner

As you could expect, the high stakes action has somewhat dried up over the Christmas period.

However this hasn't stopped "1Il|1Il|1il|" from crushing all and sundry over the past 24 hours, winning a total of $228,983 according to HSDB.

For once, Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies suffered a losing day, dropping just over $60,000.

Interestingly, HSDB are set to track mixed and draw games from the new year, games which have been heating up since the arrival of Patrik Antonius's supposed account, "Fake Love888".

Benefield calls "durrrr" a fish

Long time friend of Tom Dwan and well respected high stakes pro David "Raptor517" Benefield is the latest in a long line of pros to create an "in the well thread" over at 2+2.

It's an insightful perspective into the mind of a young successful poker player in which Benefield admits to believing Tom "durrrr" Dwan "was a fish, but a really creative/smart fish".

He claims to have won over $5 million playing poker to date, not bad work for a young man still studying at college...

Galfond's blues

PLO superstar and all round poker good guy Phil Galfond is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished players of his generation.

However times have been tougher for Galfond lately since his return to online action in Canada.

The ever-candid American encouraged PokerStars to add some $50/$100 PLO ring games to their offering a few months back, an idea gratefully received and implemented.

Ironically, Galfond has been on a downswing in the games ever since they started, something he playfully tweeted about last night: "BTW, remember when I helped convince @PokerStars to open 50/100 PLO?"
