WPT: Disappointing Number of Participants at the Bellagio
Many top pros were spotted at the tables, but overall, only 292 players were eventually present at the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier, Noah Boeken, Chad Brown, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein, Joe Cada, Erik Seidel, Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Antonio Esfandiari, John Juanda, Dave Ulliott, and
JonathanLittle were
only some of the big names that gathered at the Bellagio and paid the
buy-in of $15,000 for the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker
Classic.
Overall, at least one top player was spotted at almost every
table. The tournament, however, failed to live up to expectations. With
a total of only 292 registrations, the number of participants of fell
short by far, of the expected 400. On Day 2 however, there will still
be the possibility to buy into the tournament, so it remains to be seen
how many players will eventually take a seat at the tables.
All-in by the favourite backfires

JonathanLittle
was one of the first players who was sent to the rails. Initially, he
lost with pocket jacks on a T-high board, before he drew the short
straw with aces against A-K. He was then under the weather and tried
hard to regain a few chips.
On a flop of

he pushed all his chips to the middle holding
and was called by Soheil Shamseddin who on his part held
and had, in addition to his top pair, a flush draw which would come
true. So Jonathan Little's tournament life was already over at the
first blind level.

But the titleholder of the event, Chino Rheem, had to go as well. On the flop of

he held the nut straight with
and put all of his chips at stake. Darryll Fish called Rheem's all-in, holding the bottom set with
. The
on the turn brought him a full-house, increasing his stack decisively eliminating Rheem.

Fish managed to maintain his spirits for the whole day and
eventually ended Day 1 as the chip leader. Antonio Esfandiari and
Carlos Mortensen can also be found among the top 10 players. These are
the ten players that were able to gather the most chips on the first
tournament day:
