WPT Legends of Poker: Jonathan Little in top 10 after Day 1

Day 1 of the WPT Legends of Poker Championship event saw 279 players taking their seats and by the end of the day, only 180 of them stayed in the race for the $1 million first place prize.

WPT Legends of PokerWorld Poker Tour (WPT) Legends of Poker kicked off this Saturday with a total of 279 participants who paid the $10,000 entry fee for the WPT NL Hold'em Championship. Despite attracting nearly 100 players less than last year, the event's prize pool still reached a respectable $2,625,500 with $1 million going to the first place finisher.

None of the former champions of the event showed up, as Doyle Brunson, Dan Harrington, Chris Karagulleyan, Mel Judah, Joe Pelton, Alex Kahaner and John Phan were all missing in the field.

Jonathan LittleDue to the small field, the tournament staff decided to play just five levels of play during the day instead of the planned six. By the end of the last level of play, only 180 players secured their tickets for Day 2. Carlos Mortensen, Shannon Shorr, Tom Schneider, Joe Sebok, Nenad Medic, Jimmy Fricke and Barry Greenstein were just some of the notable eliminations before the end of the day.

Meanwhile, a November Niner Steven Begleiter accumulated 235,000 in chips which secured him the chip lead for the night. His closest challenger Toto Leonidas is far behind with 93,000 in chips, followed by Bryan Devonshire with 78,000 and some more notable names such as JonathanLittle (pictured right) who ended Day 1 with 81,000 in chips.
