The most prestigious poker event of the year has finished almost a week ago. Today, we want to offer you some records, stories and bets all about the Series.
Eleven Bracelets went to Europe
In 2008, European players won almost twice as many bracelets as in the previous year. Eleven of the coveted bracelets were shipped over the big pond. Ahead in the comparison between European countries are the Germans: Jens Vörtmann, Sebastian Ruthenberg and Martin Kläser brought three bracelets back to Germany. The other European bracelet wearers of 2008 are David Benyamine (FR), Rob Hollink (NL), Davidi Kitai (B), Jesper Hougaard (DK), Marty Smyth (IR) and Vitaly Lunkin (RU).
Nikolay Evdakov breaks Record
Almost unnoticed, the Russian Nikolay Evdakov broke a WSOP record. Evdakov cashed ten times in this year's Series and thus beat the previous record of eight cashes. This record was held by Phil Hellmuth (2006), Humberto Brenes (2006), Michael Binger (2007) and Chad Brown (2007) to date.Crazy Bets
During the WSOP, a lot of crazy bets were made. Phil Ivey made a deal with Daniel Negreanu that the winner of a bracelet would receive $200,000 from the other person. Mike Matusow won his bet from the previous year: He had bet with Ted Forrest for $100,000 that he would be able to slim by 60 pounds within a year.
