WSOP Event #14: Veldhuis Aims For The Final Table

Day 1 of $2,500 Limit Hold'em Six-handed event gathered a field of both top pros and amateurs. Alexander Veldhuis was one of the more successful players for the day, building up a sizeable stack.

WSOP Event 14The $2,500 Limit Hold'em Six-handed event attracted 367 players and only 98 secured their seats for Day 2. The total prize pool is $844,000 with 36 spots getting paid and the first place being awarded $223,697.

Amongst others, Barry Greenstein, Andy Bloch, Michael Mizrachi, Jean-Robert Bellande, Ylon Schwartz, Chau Giang, Jennifer Harman, Alex Veldhuis and Vanessa Rousso were also seen lurking from their seats in hopes of reaching the final table.

As if playing for shiny chips wasn't enough, the players at one of the tables agreed that anyone who gets aces and wins with them, also gets $100 from each person. Ronnie Bardah was crippled to just 2,000 chips but he patiently worked his way up and at one point, he picked two black aces and won a huge pot which got him up to over 14,000. Besides the chips, he also took a few hundred dollar bills to make his victory complete.
those damn kings...
Vanessa RoussoWhile Bardah and his table seemed to be having fun, Vanessa Rousso (pictured left) was having some troubles with kings. On a flop of Kc6d6h, Rousso was check-called by her opponent. The turn came 3c, her opponent bet and she called.

The river brought 6s, her opponent bet and Rousso quickly called. Her opponent revealed KhQh and Rousso exclaimed, "Ahh, why do you always have it! (referring to the king)" and she mucked her cards, dropping down to just 3,000 chips.

John Juanda didn't have a much better day either. He was seen dropping dangerously slow during the last stages of play. In the key hand, John Juanda raised pre-flop with one player joining him to the flop. The flop came Qc3s2s, Juanda check-raised his opponent who then replied with a three-bet and Juanda called.

The turn brought 7d and both players checked. The river came 7s, Juanda bet and his opponent called. Juanda turned over Ac4d but it wasn't good enough, as his opponent revealed AdTc. With this hand lost, Juanda dropped down to 8,000 and couldn't find the strength for a comeback, packing his bags before the day ended.

While Day 1 of the Event #14 was running at full speed, Team PokerStrategy.com members began to prepare for their next challenge, the $5,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament. Hopefully, they will have more success there.
