WSOP Event #26: Justin Bonomo Looking Good After Day 1

Day 1 of the $1,500 Fixed Limit Hold'em event attracted 643 players. Only 124 of them survived through the day, including some notable names such as Justin Bonomo.

WSOP Event 26Surrounded by all the No Limit Hold'em and Omaha events, the $1,500 Fixed Limit Hold'em Event #26 is under its way. A total of 643 players signed up for the tournament and many familiar faces were seen at the tables, such as Ylon Scwartz, Shaun Deeb,  Elisabeth Shannon, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Bus, JonathanLittle  and many more.

Top 63 spots will end in the money, with the first place finisher being awarded $197,488. The day started, as always, with some people missing, though they did make an appearance early enough to still have a stack to play with - some of the late arrivals included Daniel Negreanu, Erica Schoenberg and Justin Bonomo.

It took several hours before the eliminations started to grow rapidly and soon enough, over half of the field was gone. Negrenau was one of those who wouldn't make it into the second play day. In his last hand, Negreanu held A-K against opponents pocket fours and he was unlucky enough to see a flop with both an ace and a four, Negreanu moved all-in and the rest is history.

Shannon ElisabethMeanwhile, Elisabeth Shannon (pictured left) was on the ropes at one point, but managed to survive and build her stack up. In that turnaround hand, Elisabeth moved all-in against three opponents and the board came 9c9d8hAh4s. The three opponents checked both flop and turn, and then the river saw a bet, fold and call. The two remaining opponents showed A-K and A-Q while Elisabeth held Q-9 for trip nines.

She spent most of the day with a short stack and Lady Luck helped her here and there, just enough for Elisabeth to make it through the day. In one of such more fortunate hands, the board read A-3-3-X-K, Elisabeth checked, her opponent bet and she made the call, leaving herself with 1,200 behind.

Her opponent showed A-Q and Elisabeth turned over A-T. Elisabeth watched the dealer shovel the chips towards her opponent and then another player pointed out that the pot was actually split. The chips were then divided and Elisabeth again had a stack to work with. She won a couple of pots afterwards and climbed up to 8,000 in chips. By the end of the day, her stack grew up to 13,000.

Only 124 players of the original 643 survived through the day. Jan Von Halle secured himself the chip lead but the top 10 leaderboard shows a few dangerous names, especially when you give them a healthy stack, such as Justin Bonomo for example.
