WSOP Event #30: J.C. Tran Wins His Second Bracelet

J.C. Tran entered the day with a healthy stack and quickly built it up, eliminating one opponent after another on his way to the top. Eventually, the race for the title came down to him and Jeff Kimber.

WSOP Event 30The final nine players returned on Day 3 of the $2,500 PLO event to determine who would walk away with the WSOP bracelet. Jeff Kimber entered the day with as the chip leader, while John Juanda wasn't looking too comfortable with his short stack.

Juanda had the shortest stack and also the shortest appearance at the final table, as he was the first player to leave his seat. Theo Jorgensen was the next one to bite the dust after a hand against J.C. Tran. Action began with a raise to 55,000 from Tran, Jorgensen raised the pot, putting in 140,000 more and Tran made the call.

The flop came 3s3h5h, Tran bet half the pot and Jorgensen called with his remaining chips. Tran showed 8cTc9h7h and Jorgensen revealed AcKsKd7s. The turn brought 4d and with the 6s on the river, Tran caught a straight which eliminated Jorgensen in 8th place.

Tran continued to dominate the final table and knocked out another player. This time it was Chad Layne who had to pack his bags. Tran opened with a raise to 60,000, Layne three-bet to 200,000, Tran re-raised enough to put Layne all-in and a call came from Layne's corner. Tran turned over KhKsJc5h and Layne showed AsJdTs8d. The board came Tc3d3c5s4h and Tran's kings held up to bust Layne in 7th place.

Rami Boukai was eliminated in the biggest hand of the day at that moment. J.C. Tran (pictured right) raised to 60,000, Jean-Phillippe Leandri re-raised to 216,000, Boukai didn't quite have that many chips, so he just shoved what he had left and hoped to perhas even triple up if Tran decided to call as well.

Tran decided to call and he checked the flop of 7c2cQh. Leandri moved all-in and Tran called. Bouaki showed 5c6h8s4d, Leandri showed AcAhQc2d and Tran showed Ks9hJs7s. The board revealed As and Kd, tripling Leandri's chip stack and eliminating Boukai in 6th place.

Dallas Flowers was sent to the rail in 5th place, followed by Ross Boatman in 4th and Jean-Phillippe Leandri in 3rd. The heads-up play featured J.C. Tran holding a 2,230,000 to 1,040,000 lead over Jeff Kimber. It didn't take long for Tran to bust out his last opponent, as he had been dominating the final table throughout the day.

In the last hand of the heads-up match, Kimber opened for 120,000 and Tran called. The flop came 9d7s7h, Tran checked, Kimber bet 75,000 and Tran called. The turn brought 8s, Tran bet 100,000, Kimber moved all-in and Tran called. Kimber revealed 6h4s4d3c and Tran showed KsQh8c8h. The river came 3s and J.C. Tran won his second WSOP bracelet along with $235,685 in prize money.
