WSOP Event #36: Pokernoob Busts Before The Money

After a solid run on Day 1, Pokernoob succeeded in making a good start on Day 2 of the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event. However, he lost most of his chips in a key-hand, a few places before the money bubble...

WSOP Event 36 Pokernoob was one of the 213 players who qualified yesterday for Day 2 of the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em. With a new play day ahead of them, the players needed to reach the top 171 if they wanted to end in the money.

This was Pokernoob's first Day 2 in an event since the beginning of the World Series of Poker. "The variance is so big in these tournaments," tells us one pro player, "that it's really hard to get to Day 2, especially with such big fields where you have to win your coin flips to hope to go near the money..."

After a good finish on Day 1 where Pokernoob played an aggressive poker, thanks to a passive table where nobody tried to steal the antes, he applied the same strategy at the beginning of the second day, slowly building his stack from 48,000 to 55,000. It was a good start which would soon be destroyed in a key-hand…

a ghost flush against a made straight
PokerNoobWith J-T offsuit, Pokernoob raised to 3,000 from an early position. Big blind was 1,200 and antes 100. He got called by the player next to him, and everybody else folded.

Flop brought him 9-8-6 for a straight-draw, as well as a runner-runner clubs flush draw. After making a continuation bet, he got called again. Turn came 2h and Pokernoob fired a second barrel. "A check would have been too weak, and I had to build a possible river bluff, so I think it was the best option possible."

His opponent called again and the action moved to the river which brought a clubs, the 5c. Pokernoob decided to go all-in to steal the pot, but unfortunately for him, his opponent hit his straight, and after tanking for a few minutes, he made the call with pocket sevens.

"I really think it was the best move to make in that situation. I wanted to build a big stack to play for the win, not only to make the money…" A few hands later and Pokernoob was busted with his short stack, thus finishing in 181th place, just ten places away from the bubble…
a dreadful day for the pros of pros
Chino RheemThe plan for Day 2 was to play down to the final nine, however, as the last cards had been dealt, 17 players were still in the tournament. Some of the notable names who busted earlier in the day include Shaun Deeb, Thomas Bohm, Lika Gerasimova, Rob Hollink, Michael Binger and David "Chino" Rheem (pictured right).

Corwin Cole started the day in the chip lead, but after everything had been said and done, it was Steven Tabb who managed to take the top of the leaderboard before the remaining players enter Day 3. His closest challengers are Andrew Seden, Warren Woodall and Pat Atchison. There are also two ladies still in the tournament, namely Laurence Grondin and Almira Skripchenko, a chess grandmaster who turned pro in poker a few years ago.

Here are the top 10 chip stacks after Day 2:
