WSOP Event #51: Filippi And Nguyen Eliminated On Day 2

Both Amnon Filippi and Men Nguyen couldn't make it through the second play day of the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event. Only 30 players survived through the day, as they will continue to race for the title on Day 3.

WSOP Event 51Day 2 of the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event saw 349 players returning to their seats. With roughly 30 of them being down to less than 10 big blinds, "all-in" was heard quite frequently during the early stages of play and with so much action at the tables, it didn't take long before the bubble was reached.

In fact, three players were eliminated on the last hand before the money. Chris Cooke, was one of those unfortunate players even though he was looking relatively safe with his pocket jacks. He moved all-in for about 21,000 from the small blind and Jeffrey Vanchiro called with  Ac9d. An ace came on the river, thus eliminating Cooke as one of the final three non-cash finishers.

Amnom Filippi made it into the money but he was probably hoping to reach the final table or at least get close to it. However, his day came to an end after his As5s lost against 8h8s. The board came Qc7h3hQs2s and Filippi was out, earning $3,036 for his efforts.

Men Nguyen didn't make it much further either, as he was also seen packing his bags before the play was concluded for the day. On a flop of Jh8s3s, Terry Fleischer moved all-in and Men Nguyen called all-in for 68,000. Fleischer showed TsTh and Nguyen revealed QsJc. Nguyen was ahead, but that changed when the turn brought Tc. The river came Jd and Fleischer scooped the pot with a full house.

While it's nice to see from time to time pocket rockets cracked, it is also nice to see when the best hand pre-flop actually holds up. A player in early position raised, a player behind him re-raised all-in, Steven Levy had both players covered and moved all-in, and the original raiser made the call. Early position player showed AsKc, the player in middle position tabled 8c8d and Steven Levy tabled AdAh. The board came 7h5s2cTc6d and Levy eliminated two players, receiving a huge pile of chips as his stack climbed up to 750,000.

Josh Schlein ended the Day 2 activities with a hand against Georgios Kapalas. Schlein opened with a raise to 32,000 from early position and Kapalas called from the big blind. The flop came 8c8s6s and both players checked. The turn brought Qs, Schlein checked, Kapalas fired 45,000 into the pot and Schlein called. The river came 3h, Schlein checked again, Kapalas bet 110,000 and after a few minutes in the tank, Schlein decided to make the call and showed AhJs for just ace high but apparently it was good enough since Kapalas mucked his hand.

Only 30 players will enter Day 3 and here are the top 10 chip stacks amongst them:
