WSOP Player Profile: John Juanda - One of Poker's Most Underrated Pros

Juanda just won his 5th WSOP bracelet in the $10,000 2-7 Lowball Championship, after defeating Phil Hellmuth heads-up. Thanks to this recent victory, he also climbed to 5th in the Poker All Time Money List, having earned more than $11.7 million from live tournaments.

Because of his quiet, unassuming character, Juanda doesn't quite get the recognition he deserves as a poker player.

Juanda is a five time bracelet winner, and took the coveted WSOP Europe Main Event title in 2008 for a $1.5 million payday. He sits 5th in the Poker All Time Money list with $11,774,485 in live tournament winnings.

Juanda's other notable achievements include 2nd at the 2010 EPT London, and 4th in the $50k Players Championship 8 Game Event at the 2010 WSOP.

Juanda is also an accomplished cash game player, having featured regularly on Poker After Dark and in the "Big Game" at the Bellagio. Along with the likes of Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan, Juanda travelled to Macau last November to play high stakes games against Chinese business tycoons.

Battling Phil Hellmuth for 5th WSOP bracelet

Juanda defeated WSOP legend Phil Hellmuth in the $10k 2-7 Lowball Championship a few days ago to claim the $367,170 first prize. Outspoken pro Daniel Negreanu was quick to praise Juanda, tweeting "Juanda is the best all around 2-7 player I've ever played with, especially in tournaments. He reads people very well."

Runner-up Hellmuth simply remarked "You're just so f****** scary!"

Known for his calm, humble demeanour, Juanda is a gentleman both on and off the felt. Following his fifth bracelet victory, Juanda was typically modest, stating "If the cards would have fallen his way he could be standing here doing the interview instead of me."
