durrrr omitted from final Poker Hall of Fame nominees list

Despite being vote as one of the top 10 favourites of the public to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, Tom "durrrr" Dwan did not make it into the final list of 9 candidates.

Tom "durrrr" DwanAfter the initial round of public voting, Tom "durrrr" Dwan was included in the original list of 10 nominees for the Poker Hall of Fame (HOF) as one of the top vote getters. However, as the finalized list was announced, his name no longer features as one of the nine candidates for induction in 2009.

In their press released, the HOF governing council stated that "With all due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the games most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for Hall of Fame selection. We wish him well and expect he will again be considered once he has stood the test of time."

Inductees to be announced during Main Event Final Table

Poker Hall of FameThe governing council decided to enforce a strict interpretation of the requirements for inductees when ommitting "durrrr". Despite fulfilling three of the four criteria for poker players , "durrrr" who is just 23 years old and a relative newcomer to the poker world would have to stick around for much longer to qualify as to having "stood the test of time".

The nine candidates that have been selected for 2009 are:

Mike Sexton

This group of top pros will have to receive 75% of the votes from the panel of 15 living HOF members and 15 members of the media. Voting will end on 2nd October and the induction ceremony will happen on November 7, during the dinner break of the WSOP Main Event Final Table. In 2008, the inductees were Dewey Tomko and Henry Orenstein.
