Ring Game Player Statistics

Preface: in this chapter I will present only the ring game player statistics in greater detail. The options for tournament player statistics are mostly the same. If many questions come up or there is a lot of demand, I will gladly write and extra chapter on this topic. I will only give basic descriptions of functions available here. I will describe them in detail in the fourth chapter "Practical work with PT". Therefore, use this chapter as a reference if you are unclear about a particular function.

The menu File -> Ring Game Player Statistics or the clicking on the proper toolbar icon will open the window that shows you the statistics PT has calculated from the hand histories.

The left side always contains a list of all players in the database regardless of which tab you are in currently:

The stats window can call up different stats from the various tabs. In what follows I will explain the individual tabs and their particulars and special functions.

If you are not familiar with symbols and abbreviations used for the statistics, just hover your mouse over the symbol and a description will appear in the statusbar at the bottom.

You will constantly use the following three buttons throughout PT's statistics window:

They call the following options:

s: This lets you change how the list is sorted, and you can make it lasting if you want.

p: Calls a print menu for the current list.

r: Opens the "replayer" for the selected hand. This will show you the run of the hand on a virtual poker table in a graphic fashion.

General Info

This is the first tab you see when you open the ring game player statistics. It looks like this:

You can get and work with general information on selected players:

Screen Name: Shows the name of the player
Location: You can enter where a player lives if you want.
Site: Shows the site of the poker client from which the hands were imported.
General Description: Lets you describe or make notes on the player. These cannot be displayed in overlay software (PokerAce HUD) for example.
Do Not Auto-Rate This Player: If you use the auto-rate feature (more on that later), you can stop this player from being autorated. This is useful when the stats indicate a good player but he's a fish anyway.
Pick An Icon To Associate With This Player: You can manually choose an icon for this player as a symbol for their qualities (fish, calling station, ...). These can be shown in game using PokerAce HUD etc. if you use auto-rate, players will automatically be assigned such icons.

Aliases: This option lets you consolidate the statistics for a player with multiple identities on multiple poker clients or platforms. By default, PT makes a new database entry for every poker client, even if the names are the same. You'll see the name multiple times in the list but with different characters trailing it to indicate poker client. Clicking on "aliases" opens this dialog:

"Add Alias" lets you add another name from a particular poker client to the identity of the chosen player. The stats for "both" of these players will then be bound together under the currently selected mane. "Remove alias" undoes this binding.

The next part of the tab is the Player Summary:

Here you are shown the limits, results, and some stats on the game of the various limits. Clicking on "more detail.." opens a detailed display of all stats on a given player.

The lower part of the tabs displays the starthands with their stats:

Pick out a starting hand in the upper list to show all hands played with this card combination.

You can create filters to narrow the hands shown by clicking on filters. You can, for example, show all hands where you saw the showdown, or where you were in a particular position and so on. I will explain more in chapter 4, "Practical work with PT."

Clicking on "More detail..." shows you an exact display of the chosen start hand depending on position at the table.

Click on Game# in the list below to see the hand history for that game or to see it played back on a virtual poker table. More on this in chapter 4.

Session Notes

The second tab is called "Session Notes." Here you can find information and statistics for individual sessions you have played. PT counts a sitting at a single table as a session. If you played on multiple tables at once, PT will count each table as a session.

The upper third shows you a list of the limits played and the session specific stats for those limits. Clicking on "More Detail..." opens a further table which shows you the date of and how many sessions you played, and how you made out:

Under "Game Level" you can pick the limit you want to examiner. Pick your timezone under "Convert All Times To" to make the times right for your time zone. If you pick any point in time, you will see statistics for it in the lower third. This is useful for determining, for example, how well you concentrate late at night.

In the middle of the "Session Notes" tab you can find a list of sessions played and a list of the hands in those sessions.

Doubleclick on a session and only stats from that session will be shown throughout the other tabs.

If you activate the option "Show True Hourly Win Rate", you will also be shown how many hours you've played, average number of tables open at once (MT ratio), and the hourly win or loss rate.

In the white field between the lists you can make notes on the selected session.

Clicking on the blue hand number shows you the history of that hand. The hand can be displayed graphically on a virtual poker table ("Playback this hand").

Game Notes

This tab displays all hands played for each player in a list with other information. When you first open it, only the 100 most recent hands will be displayed.

Some of the buttons at the top control the selection of displayed hands:

Show Only Hands Played By: If you work with aliases, you can narrow your selection by alias.

Only show hands with at least x.xx rake: Show only hands with a minimum rake value.

Clicking on"Get All" reads in all played hands and displays those meeting the criteria above. If the database has a lot of hands, this can take a while. If you change the criteria, you can refresh the view by clicking "filter". If you want to work in packets of 100 hands at a time to reduce the wait time, you can show the next 100 hands by clicking "Get Next 100". Sorting will then be by date, from new to old.

Clicking the "find" button lets you look for a particular hand number.

The "export" button opens a dialog for exporting hands. You must choose the folder in which to save the files and how many histories to save per file. Caution: all hands will be exported, not just the ones in the list. Such exported hands can then be imported directly by somebody else.

In the lower part of the tab "game notes" you will see details for the above selected hand: Who was in the blinds, who won or lost how much, how the hand went. All the way down below you can make your own notes on the hand.

Position Stats

The "position stats" shows you how successful you have been in the different positions at the table.

The "Filter: Hands With Between x AND x Players" allows you to determine which hands should be considered. If you just want to see heads up hands then set both values to 2. If you want to see all the hands, pick between 2 and 10. And so on.

The information itself is presented in 3 parts. The upper list shows you the stats for the selected player according to relative position at the table. You can pick out a position and get a list of starting hands and the individual hands belonging to that starting hand group, like in the "general info" tab. You can look at hands for more than one position by holding ctrl and clicking the positions you want to view.

You can filter out all hands that were decided pre-flop with "Show Only Hands That Saw A Flop".

Clicking on the blue hand number in the list below shows you the hand history for that hand, as usual. You can review the hands graphically here too by clicking the small green "r" or using "playback this hand" in the hand history window.

Misc. Stats

The "Misc. Stats" tab offers you some further stats:

The upper half of this tab shows you stats about with which hands you won or lost money and so on. From high card to straight flush. You can pick a particular final hand in the upper list and the lower window will display the list of those hands. Clicking on the blue hand number shows you the hand history and allows you to playback the hand.

The option "Show Only Hands That Were Not Folded" shows only those hands with which you saw the showdown.

The lower half of this tab has two more tables:

The first is a list of all opponents with the sums of winnings/losses against them.

The second table is a monthly summary of your came: gains and losses, winrate, count of hands played and hours played. The average values for the month are also shown. The "Show Summary Only / Show Detail" button lets you choose whether to separate the summaries by poker client. This table is independent of all filters.

Summary

The "Summary" tab shows you stats about the entire databank:

The upper "game summary" table shows you a summary of the limits for which you have imported hands. This is to give you a general idea of how lucrative a particular limit on a particular poker client is. This table does not regard any filters.

The lower table shows you a list of all players in the databank and a few stats on them. The "Show Summary / Show Detail" lets you decide whether to show summaries for every player or whether to separate them by poker client and limit. You can remove your stats from the table with "Don´t Include My Stats".

The lower end of the table shows you a summary that gives you an impression of the general strength of the players in the database.

The "Icon Mass Update" function is a remnant from when the autorate function was not incorporated into PT. If you want cute, small icons for your opponents, you should use the autorate feature instead.

Game Time

"Game Time" is a feature of PT for showing stats on the opponents in-game. This function is so rudimentary and unwieldy that I will not discuss it further.

To see stats on your opponents during ht game, you should look to PokerAce HUD. PA is the uncontested leader amongst programs to overlay stats onto the poker table. A good free alternative is Gametime+. You will find out more about both programs in chapter 4- "Practical work with PT."

Preferences

The "preferences" tab lets you preset some things and activate filters which influence the stats displayed in the other tabs.

Remove All Filters: Removes all filter settings made so far.

Session Dates: You can show either all hands (all dates), all hands from a particular date (specific date), all hands since a particular date (since a date) or all hands within a particular window of time (between dates ... to ...). Note that the date format is MM/DD/YYYY.

Complimentary material by FrenzyPanza:

Quote:

It is worth noting that if you don't allow PT to change the timestamp format automatically, you can put the date in normally (dd/mm/yyyy) since PT will automatically flip the date once. That is, if you put in

01/06/2006

PT will flip it to 06/01/2006. So if you want the June 1, you must put in 01/06/2006.

If you want to change the date you must re-enter the whole thing; you can't change just the 06 in 06/01/2006 to an 05. You must type in 01/05/2006 from scratch.

Furthermore, if you don't let PT change the regional settings, it is not possible to put, say, 29.4.2006. The maximum would be 12.4.2006...

Poker Sites: Only hands from the selected clients will be displayed.

Use Player Filter: Only players fulfilling the specified criteria will be shown.

Player Icon: Only applies with regard to the autorate feature.
At Least x hands played: Only shows players for which you've recorded at least x hands.

Vol. Put $ In Pot%: Only players with at least (Greater Or Equal To) or at most (Less or Equal To) the given VP$IP.

Pre-flop Raise %: Only players with at least (Greater Or Equal To) or at most (Less or Equal To) the given PFR.

Won Showdown %: Only players with at least (Greater Or Equal To) or at most (Less or Equal To) the given W$SD.

Date Preference: Specify when PT starts a new day. You might want to count a long night session from 22:00 to 3:00 as one day...

Game Levels: Only show data from the chosen limits.

No/Pot-Limit Fix: For NL and PL games PT determines the limits from the posted big blind. If a player didn't have enough money to post a full blind, the limit can be wrongly identified. This option can correct such mistakes.

Use # Of Players In Hand Filter: Only hands with a certain player count are shown. This can be specified here. This option slows PT down somewhat and doesn't work in all areas.

Auto Save Changes Without Prompting: Settings changed in this tab will be saved automatically and will still be active after restarting PT.

Don´t Display Default Icon Picture In Treeview: If you aren't using the autorate feature, every player will get a default icon next to their name in the player list. If you activate this option, these icons will not be shown.

When This Window First Opens: You can make some presets for what should happen when you open the "Ring Game Player Statistics" window.

Automatically display my stats, my player id is: Choose your own name so that your stats will be viewable as soon as the "Ring Game Player Statistics" window is open.

The first tab I want to view is: General info is usually the most sensible option here.

Display games that were played: Creates a filter by date automatically, showing either hands from yesterday or today.
