How to install the Elephant
The PokerStrategy.com Elephant records your poker hands in a database.
These are then available for analysis and you can read important values
at the poker table on its display.
The complete installation process, starting from the download, all the
way to the setting up of your database and the display of statistical
values at the poker table is described in the quickstart guide:

Important! The Elephant needs English poker hands
If you don't have the English version of the poker room software
installed, then please uninstall and reinstall it selecting English as your language.
On Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, you can change the language directly
in the software itself. For Full Tilt Poker, go to the above 'languages' menu. For PokerStars, the same menu point is called 'language'.
Please ensure that your poker hands (and your hand histories etc) are
being saved. This is usually automatic, however in some rooms, e.g.
Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, you have to activate it first, under
'options/settings' .
Setting up the Database
The Elephant uses PostgreSQL for your database. This is a popular database
system and is automatically installed with the Elephant installation.
During the installation, the software will ask you for a username and password for the database system.
Make a note of your username and password, because you will need them later.
The first time you run the PokerStrategy.com Elephant, the first database for your
poker hands will be created. You will be required to enter your
username and password again. That's all you need to do and the Elephant
is ready for use.
What to do if I encounter problems with the database or PostgreSQL?
The
Elephant needs at least PostgreSQL 8.3. If you have an older version,
because e.g. you once used PokerTracker 2, then uninstall PostgreSQL
completely. Learn more about this here:
How to uninstall older versions of PostgreSQL
Finally, install PostgreSQL 8.3 or higher.
Important: You'll find a functional PostgreSQL installation
file for the Elephant directly in the software folder on your hard
disk. The file is called
postgresql-8.3-int.msi. Please use this file, as the official download version on the internet has been known to cause problems for many users.
