Answers
Part 1: General information
1.1 Question: Where can I download the software?
Answer: The PokerStrategy.com Elephant is available for download in the download section. The download section can be found here: http://www.pokerstrategy.com/software/.
1.2 Question: Which language should my poker software be in?
Answer: As with all poker tools, PokerStrategy.com Elephant currently only supports hand histories in English. Please ensure, right from the start, that the language in your poker software is set to English and the history is stored in English as well. Hand histories in other languages cannot be imported.
The language of your hand history can usually be set through your poker software's options. If this option is not available, your hand history will be saved in English or the language the software is installed in. Please consult the user manual for your poker software if you are not able to find the settings.
1.3 Question: Is this the final version? Where can I find information during the testing phase?
Answer: No, the currently available version is an early test version. We have made this version available to you as we wish to involve you in the development. This version does not by far include all of the features that will be available in the final version. We are hoping to receive steady feedback from you, to push forward with the development of the PokerStrategy.com Elephant.
The developer blog will keep you informed about current and planned developments. You can find the developer blog at http://elephant.pokerstrategy.com/.
1.4 Question: Where and how can I submit feedback/suggestions or report bugs to the developers?
Answer: If you have any feedback or suggestions for the developers of PokerStrategy.com Elephant, you can post these in the corresponding forum. Any kind of feedback is welcome.
Please post your feedback suggestions for improvement here:

Part 2: The PokerStrategy.com Elephant
2.1 Question: Which poker rooms are currently supported?
Answer: The following poker rooms are supported at present: William Hill, Titan Poker, PartyPoker, Full Tilt Poker, Mansion Poker, PokerStars and Everest Poker.
2.2 Question: Is the support of other poker rooms planned?
Answer: More poker rooms will be integrated in future, after all current rooms are supported error free. We are currently unable to provide for a time-line for this.
2.3 Question: Is the support of poker rooms that are not partners of PokerStrategy.com planned?
Answer: A final decision has not been made in this regard yet. Please understand that this is very low on our list of priorities.
2.4 Question: Which variations of poker are supported?
Answer: At the moment you can import Texas Hold'em cash game hands from the variations: Fixed Limit, No Limit and Pot Limit, as well as SnG tournament hands and SnG tournament summaries.
2.5 Question: Will the PokerStrategy.com Elephant support other variations of poker in the future?
Answer: Yes. However, the main focus at the moment is to make the current version as reliable and efficient as possible. That's why we are currently working to optimise the software's support of Texas Hold'em cash games and SnGs, while Omaha will be integrated next.
2.6 Question: How can I start the automatic import of hands?
Answer: A special activation of the hand history import function is currently not required as it is active by default. If you installed the poker software of a supported room in its default folders, the hand histories will be found and imported automatically.
To set up the auto-import, go to "Configuration" and click on "Auto Import". There you can manually set the paths for your hand histories or deactivate the auto-import for certain folders. A manual re-scan will search your computer for newly installed poker rooms or changes in the poker room configuration. The screen names at the particular poker rooms can be modified under "Sites" in the settings.
2.7 Question: Where can I see the access details for the database?
Answer: For this, just click on "Info..." in the "Help" menu.
Part 3: Common problems and their solutions
3.1 Question: The installation of PostgreSQL 8.3 is not functioning correctly. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: Errors during the installation of PostgreSQL can be caused by the following reasons:
- An older version PostgreSQL-Version is already installed
- The PostgreSQL installation is not complete
- You didn't install the PokerStrategy.com Elephant with administrator rights/privileges
If the above mentioned points do not apply, please take look in the section "Beta Forum - Bugs and Problems" in the forum. In the event that you are not able to find a solution for your problem there either, please post the error with a detailed description in the forum: http://www.pokerstrategy.com/forum/board.php?boardid=1467
3.2 Question: I can't see any stats. What could be the cause?
Answer: If stats are not displayed at the tables, please try to solve the problem utilising the following points:
- The portal settings were not recognised correctly or the settings are wrong.
Solution: Check the auto-import settings for the corresponding portal under "Settings" -> "Portals" - The hand histories are not in English. Solution: See section "1.2 Which language should my poker software be in?"
- The poker software does not store hand histories locally. Solution: Activate the corresponding option in your poker room's software.
Part 4: Tips and tricks
4.1 Question: Where can I find my user settings?
Answer: The PokerStrategy.com Elephant saves your settings in your user folder. Under Windows XP this is:
"C:/Documents and Settings/<windows username>/Local Settings/Application Data/PokerStrategy/PokerStrategy Elephant"
Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is the folder:
"C:/Users/<windows username>/AppData/Local/PokerStrategy/PokerStrategy Elephant"
In this folder you will find sub-folders for each version of PokerStrategy.com Elephant that you have installed, spread out over various folders.
The main folders are called, for example:
"Elephant.exe_Url_wdftfj3u2rueaufh0krw2vlkeh3i2yos"
These contain further folders that contain the version number, for example:
"0.70.11.222"
for a build of version number 0.70.
There is an XML-file in this folder called "user.config", which contains the user settings for your PokerStrategy.com Elephant.
Warning:
These folders are only visible if you have enabled "Show hidden files and folders". You can find this setting under the "View" tab in your "Folder Options":
Under Windows XP in the Explorer click on "Tools" then select "Folder Options" and click on the "View" tab.
Under Windows Vista and Windows 7 in the Explorer under "Organise" select "Folder and Search Options", click on "View".
4.2 Question: How can I reset my user settings in case of problems?
Answer: It is possible that your user settings or rather the corresponding configuration file(see "4.1 Where can I find my user settings?") becomes corrupted due to your PC crashing and could not be read by PokerStrategy.com Elephant during the new start.
In this rare case you can delete the settings file so that it can be created anew at the next start of PokerStrategy.com Elephant. You will need to set the selection for the database again but will be able to continue using the software as usual.
To delete the configuration file, navigate to the corresponding folder as described under "4.1 Where can I find my user settings?" and either delete the whole folder for that version or the therein contained user.config file.
4.3 Question: What is a log file?
Answer: The log file is created by PokerStrategy.com Elephant and contains information about any errors that may have occurred during the start of the program. A new log file is generated at each start and the previous one is saved. Up to 10 log files are saved – all older ones are overwritten. You will therefore always have up to ten log files, one for the current latest program start and nine for the previous ones.
4.4 Question: How can I view a log file and post it in the forum?
Answer: You can view the latest log file from the currently running program by navigating to the main menu of PokerStrategy.com Elephant (which can be accessed by clicking on the red button with the Elephant symbol in the top left of the software). Here you will find the option "Show log file" as a sub entry of "Help".
Depending on the type of problem, one or more log files may be of interest. If you had to restart PokerStrategy.com Elephant due to the error, the last log file will be relevant. If you have encountered problems during the current session(for example lag or freezes that went away again) then the current log file is relevant.
You can copy the content of a log file by highlighting the text with your mouse and pressing "Ctrl+C" on your keyboard or right-clicking in the text area and selecting "Copy" from the context menu. The content will then be copied to the clipboard and can be pasted into your forum post with the keyboard short-cut "Ctrl+V".
If the log file is too long and you wish to shorten it to make it easier to read for the developers and other forum users, you should definitely take look at the section "4.5 What information does the log file contain?" in order to summarise it in a sensible manner.
4.5 Question: What information does the log file contain?
Answer: The log file serves the purpose of delivering information about the running of the program. The minimum content of a log file, even if no errors have occurred, looks like the following:
Launching 'Elephant.exe' (Version: 0.71.239.779)
2009-12-18 10:16:32,256 - 3171 [5] INFO Welcome Message:
-------------------- System Info --------------------
CPU: Intel Pentium III Xeon-Prozessor at 2527 Mhz with 2 cores (x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10)
OS : Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3)
RAM: 2.99GB
Culture info: de-DE
In the upper section you will find information about the current version of PokerStrategy.com Elephant. Please ensure that you always use the latest version of the software as many bugs have often already been fixed!
Beneath that you will find information about your system. This is very important for the developers to know if an error only occurs on a particular type of system.
Underneath that you will find the actual results of the log. You can recognise these as they begin with numbers(such as "(10)"). As long as only the first two sections are visible, no error that was recognised as such has occurred. An error will be shown in the log file as follows:
(10) Log: 22:34:06.14 -- , line 0: System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException: The quoted key was not stated in the dictionary.
at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowKeyNotFoundException()
at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.get_Item(TKey key)
at Poker.Parsers.ParserProprietary.a(String A_0, Information A_1)
This is really interesting information. Depending on how often an error has occurred, these lines may appear very often. If you see the same error repeating itself, please summarise the log file accordingly before posting it in the forum.
