Blind Defense - How to Defend Your Blinds

Introduction

In this article
  • The problems involved with defending a blind
  • The different ways of defending a blind
  • The biggest leaks players have when defending blinds
The subject of this article, blind defense, refers to a situation in which you are sitting on the Small or the Big Blind and exactly one player has raised in front of you. This player is showing interest in the dead money from the pot (the blinds, which you've partly paid for, too) and is signaling that he has a hand he can fight with. All other players fold leaving you heads up with the aggressor, both before and after the flop.

This article will not discuss playing in a blind position after another opponent limps, but some of the aspects we will discuss also apply to such a situation.

A cold caller between you and the pre-flop aggressor changes the dynamics of the hand radically. Many of the concepts we will discuss in this article do not apply to such situations.
