AK and QQ Preflop at the Low Limits (1) - Basic Ideas

by MiiWiin

These two starting hands always pose a lot of problems, in particular for beginners. Especially in the low limits, the decision to always go broke with these hands preflop seems to be rather uncommon. We will therefore introduce you to some basic ideas today that will help you base your future decisions on your own knowledge rather than on a chart, which does not take into account individual game situations.

Wow... I was thinking about exactly that some 20 minutes ago while having a walk on the street, then I turned on my computer, logged on PS and... saw this article! What a coincidence. Very helpful. I'll look forward to the next one!

nice one

the article could be summed by:
1) "never 3bet/fold in low stakes fr" (necesserary assumptions for doing so are foolish in NL10)
2) "isolate > multiway with QQ/AK"

#4 joehahaha, 07 Oct 10 13:49

am I right?

at nl25/50 FR, QQ and AK are the hands people make the most mistakes with. In most spots I just flat call pre with AK,QQ (assuming there has been a standard raise and ofc stat and position dependant).

#6 Targetme, 14 Oct 10 18:36

just remember you dont have to beat bad players preflop its much easier with a postflop edge so flatting qq and ak is never bad at low stakes

totally agree with #5 and #6,flat calling is usually the best move.then base decision on flop

No reg at NL2-NL10 goes broke with less than KK+, this is terrible advice really. I only broke AK/QQ vs very fishy opponents (the type u see in the casino thinking that broking any pocket pair is good). Broking QQ/AK vs any good player is just -EV. Much better playing post & keeping their range wider, whats the point in folding out worse hands just to get called by better.

agree with jhutch65. if your playing the 40 - 100 bb tables. it usually boils down to KK - AA against regs.

but if you play this on the 50bb cap tables (less regs more fish), i would have to agree with the article

8# cause when they fold you win a pot and if they call your AI you are still not that far behind.
