Daniel Negreanu zur WSOP Final Table Problematik
Daniel Negreanu hat in seinem Blog ein Statement zur umstrittenen Entscheidung über den diesjährigen Final Table der WSOP abgegeben. Darin wirbt er für Verständnis und versucht die Entscheidung von einem anderen Blickwinkel zu betrachten.
Als Anfang des Monats die Entscheidung von Harrah's bekanntgegeben wurde, dass der diesjährige Final Table des Main Events nicht im Juni, sondern erst 117 Tage später, im November, ausgespielt werden solle, war der Aufschrei in der Pokercommunity groß.
Die Pläne stoßen bisher gerade bei Pokerfreunden, die schon länger dabei sind, auf Unverständnis. Doch auch die neue Generation sieht in der Änderung mehr Nachteile als Vorteile. In einem Blogeintrag versucht Daniel Negreanu, Mitglied im Spielerrat der WSOP, der die Änderung absegnete, die Sache unvoreingenommener zu betrachten und gibt einige Gründe an, warum die Änderung getroffen werden musste.
Im Folgenden eine Auswahl seiner Argumente:
"The bottom line is this: if Harrah's and/or ESPN doesn't profit handsomely from the WSOP... then we are all screwed. If they don't make enough money to justify the headache of trying to accommodate thousands of sometimes, demanding poker players, then who will run this thing?"
"I don't have any idea how much money Harrah's makes off the WSOP. I'm guessing, though, that the number people assume is far greater than the actual amount."
"As a poker community we need to wake up a bit and realize the situation we are in, specifically in the U.S. Attendance is down in most tournaments, ratings for the premiere poker shows has also dipped. Poker is no longer seen as this "gold mine stock" amongst the mainstream public. There has been a lull in mainstream interest (a lot of that can definitely be credited to the UIGEA to some degree)."
"I am assuming that both Harrah's and ESPN are sensing that, and this is an attempt to inject some life, and some buzz back into the game. [...] Seriously, do you guys think about that sort of thing?"
"I should add this: I am no "company man," I am no "yes man," and I've had my fair share of shouting matches in the past with management. [...] but things need to be put into perspective here."
Die Reaktionen der Pokercommunity auf seinen Eintrag sind äußerst gespalten. Ein Teil stimmt Negreanu zu und sieht in der Lösung den richtigen und einzigen Weg die WSOP zu erhalten. Der Großteil der Community steht der Änderung aber weiterhin skeptisch gegenüber.
Wirklich schlauer werden wir wohl erst Ende November sein, wenn der Final Table ausgespielt wurde und die Zuschauerzahlen bekannt sind.
