Das diesjährige WSOP Main Event begann mit hunderten von ausgezeichneten Spielern, aber mit Ben Lamb schaffte es ein einziger, das Ganze wie ein 5-Dollar Donkament aussehen zu lassen. <\/p>

Die WSOP hatte prinzipiell ja schon nicht schlecht angefangen für Lamb. Ein zweiter Platz in einem $3.000-Pot Limit Omaha-Event. $259.918 in bar. Das ist ein Cash, nach dem selbst gestandene Vegas-Pros sagen, dass sie einen erfolgreichen Sommer hatten.<\/p>

Ben Lamb war allerdings noch nicht fertig. Eine Woche später spielte er die $10.000-Pot Limit Omaha Championship (hatte ja bei dem 3k-Event auch ganz gut geklappt mit PLO) und nahm diesmal direkt das Bracelet mit. Dazu $814.436.<\/p>

Während andere nach so einem Cash erst mal im Pelzmantel in den Pool gesprungen wären oder einen Gehstock (natürlich handgefertigt!) gekauft hätten, entschloss sich Lamb für die Nerd-Variante: Zocken!<\/p>

Noch'n Turnier.<\/h2>

Also schnell Late Registration für die $10.000-6-Max-Championship, hinsetzen und am Ende von Tag 1 hatte Ben Lamb trotz des verspäteten Starts einen Top 3-Stack. In einem der bestbesetzten Turniere der WSOP. LOL Donkaments. <\/p>

Am Ende reichte es leider nur zu einem skandalös schlechten zwölften Platz und somit lediglich für $56.140 Preisgeld. Ein solides Jahresgehalt für viele Menschen, aber in der Gesamtbetrachtung von Ben Lambs WSOP maximal ein Taschengeld.<\/p>

Oder eben genau der Buy-in für die $50.000-Players Championship. War das $10k 6-max-Event schon stark besetzt, spielte die Players Championship nochmal in einer anderen Liga. Selbst etablierte Pros versuchten noch kurzfristig, ohne Markup Shares zu verkaufen und insgesamt waren nur 128 rolled oder degeneriert genug, um ein Mittelklassefahrzeug als Turnier-Buy-in zu zahlen.<\/p>

Bei diesem Turnier hatte Ben Lamb allerdings kein Glück und er schied ohne Cash aus. Haha, kleiner Scherz am Rande. Natürlich kam er an den Final Table. Zwar musste er als Achter gehen und gewann \"nur\" $201.338, doch immerhin hatte der altersweise Phil Hellmuth noch tröstende Worte für ihn: \"I think you are a super talented Player.\" Großzügig von Hellmuth Junior!<\/p>

Hellmuth wäre ja auch fast der Spieler gewesen, der am Ende der WSOP das WSOP Player of the Year-Ranking angeführt hätte. Fast. Schließlich musste noch das Main Event gespielt werden.<\/p>

6.865 Spieler, unter ihnen erfahrene Live-Profis, milchgesichtige Internetspieler und Landwirte aus dem mittleren Westen, die den Buy-in per Rubbellos gewonnen hatten (True Story!). Ein Turnier, bei dem gutes Poker sicher ein möglicher Weg zum Final Table ist, aber auch alles andere als eine Garantie für Erfolg.<\/p>

Und trotzdem schaffte er es wieder. Chipleader nach Tag 1B und jetzt, acht Tage später, als Fünfter am Final Table des WSOP Main Events. Zusätzlich Hellmuth im WSOP Player of the Year-Ranking abgehängt.<\/p>

Ein Lauf wie Usain Bolt auf Powerthirst<\/h2>

Ben Lamb, wie machst du das? Ein Jahr lang Freiwilligendienst in der Suppenküche? Jedem Rentner der Welt die Einkäufe nach Hause tragen? <\/p>

Er spielt gutes Poker, keine Frage, aber genießt eben auch das Glück des Tüchtigen. Beispiel gefällig? 12 Spieler noch im Main Event, Final Two Tables und Ben Lamb raist vom Cutoff. Der Big Blind, Matt Giannetti, callt. Flop \"\"\"\"\"\". Der Big Blind checkt, Lamb setzt, der Big Blind callt. Turn \"\", check-check, River \"\". <\/p>

Der Pot ist 3.14 Millionen groß und Lamb setzt nach Giannettis Check 4 Millionen. Overbet am River nach angekommenem Flush. Nuts or Nothing? Schließlich callt Giannetti nach langem Zögern und 'Benba' zeigt \"\"\"\", Giannetti mucked. Rivered Trip Deuces für einen 11 Millionen Pot. Must be f***ing nice.<\/p>

Im November gehen die Benba-Festspiele nun weiter und wenn er weiter runnt wie Usain Bolt auf Powerthirst, dann können die Kollegen von der WSOP schon mal provisorisch seinen Namen in das Bracelet eingravieren. <\/p>

Ein letzter mahnender Hinweis noch: Michael Mizrachi hatte 2010 auch einen Monsterlauf, gewann erst die $50.000-Players Championship, holte dann zwei Final Tables in $10.000-Championship Events (FL und 7 Card Stud), um schließlich seinen Run durch den Einzug in die November Nine zu krönen.<\/p>

Dieses Jahr hingegen war absolute Ebbe im Hause Grinder. Trotz prallgefüllter Schedule gelang ihm nur ein Cash (Zweiter Platz im $2.500-Omaha\/7 Card Stud Hi\/Lo-Mix für $158.148), so dass nach Abzug aller Buy-ins und Spesen vermutlich maximal eine schwarze Null zu Buche steht.<\/p>

Hoffen wir für Ben, dass seine Romanze mit Fortuna länger als einen Sommer hält...<\/p>
