Guo Meimei<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Die 24 Jahre alte Guo Meimei<\/strong> war eine Internetberühmtheit in China und wurde mit Instagram-Playboy Dan Bilzerian<\/a> verglichen, weil auch sie mit ihrem dekadenten Lifestyle die sozialen Medien 'bereicherte'. Gleichzeitig gab sie vor, für das Rote Kreuz zu arbeiten.<\/p>

Nun wurde sie jedoch zu einer Gefängnisstrafe von fünf Jahren verurteilt<\/strong>. Sie wurde für schuldig befunden, in privat angemieteten Wohnungen illegale Casinos betrieben zu haben. Bereits im August letzten Jahres wurde sie verhaftet<\/a>, weil sie illegal Wetten für die Weltmeisterschaft angenommen hatte.<\/p>

Meimei gab zwar zu, an illegalen Glücksspielen beteiligt gewesen zu sein, bestritt aber, dass sie illegal ein Casino betrieben habe. Während des Prozesses gab sie an, sie habe nicht gewusst, sich strafbar zu machen. Anders als in Macau und Hong Kong ist Glücksspiel fast überall in China strafbar.<\/p>

Meimei machte sich erstmals 2011 verdächtig, als sie Bilder von ihrem luxuriösen Lifestyle in den sozialen Medien verbreitete. Unter anderem prahlte sie mit ihrem Urlaub, teuren Autos und Millionen auf ihrem Konto. Dies stand zur ihrer Angabe im Widerspruch, Geschäftsführerin beim chinesischen Roten Kreuz zu sein<\/strong>.<\/p>

In der Folge hiervon geriet die Hilfsorganisation in die Kritik, doch die bestritt jegliche Verbindung zu Meimei. Trotzdem sanken Spenden an das Rote Kreuz in dem Jahr um 60%.<\/p>

Als dann Details über ihre illegalen Glücksspielangebote öffentlich wurden, erregte die Geschichte große Aufmerksamkeit in China. In dieser Woche wurde ein chinesischer Hashtag zum Prozess über sechs Millionen Mal angeklickt<\/strong>.<\/p>

Bislang ist nicht bekannt, ob Meimei gegen ihre Verurteilung in Berufung gehen wird.<\/p>
