Nachdem in der vergangenen Woche Mike Sexton wie kaum jemand zuvor aus allen Ecken der Community gewürdigt<\/a> wurde, ist nun die traurige Gewissheit eingekehrt. Am gestrigen Sonntag ist das Urgestein der modernen Pokerszene verstorben.<\/p>

Im Alter von 72 Jahren hat eine der Legenden des Spiels leider den Kampf gegen den Krebs verloren – einen Kampf, den er größtenteils für sich behielt, weil er wie für ihn so typisch bis zuletzt ein positives und sonniges Gemüt vermitteln wollte.<\/p>

Mike war zweifellos einer der Pioniere der Pokerindustrie und es gibt wohl nur wenige, die einen ähnlich großen Einfluss auf das moderne Spiel hatten<\/strong>.<\/p>

Seit den Anfängen im Jahr 2002 war er als TV-Moderator der World Poker Tour<\/em> tätig und wohl bei jedem lief irgendwann eine Folge im heimischen Wohnzimmer, in der Mike Sexton mit seiner sympathischen Ausstrahlung der Welt das Spiel mit zwei Karten näherbringen wollte. Während der Main-Event-Triumph von Chris Moneymaker bei der World Series of Poker<\/em> der wohl entscheidende Moment für den globalen Pokerboom war, hatte die WPT bereits zuvor gezeigt, dass Poker auch als Zuschauersport funktionieren kann. Daran hatte Mike Sexton als zentrales Gesicht der Übertragungen zweifellos einen erheblichen Anteil.<\/p>

Davon abgesehen nahm Mike auch eine entscheidende Rolle bei partypoker<\/em> als Vorsitzender ein, als der Anbieter noch der größte Pokerraum der Welt war. Unzählige Spieler, auch von PokerStrategy.com, hatten genau dort ihre ersten Schritte an den Online-Tischen gewagt.<\/p>

In die Poker Hall of Fame<\/em> wurde Mike Sexton angesichts einer derartigen Laufbahn bereits 2009 aufgenommen, davon abgesehen konnte er als Spieler auch ein WSOP-Bracelet und einen Titel bei der World Poker Tour gewinnen. Vor allem an eben jenen Sieg bei der WPT Montreal im Jahr 2016<\/a> erinnern sich viele mit einem Lächeln zurück, da das Gesicht schlechthin der Turnierserie endlich auch selbst eins der Events gewinnen konnte, die er über Jahre hinweg so eindrucksvoll kommentiert hatte.<\/p>

Das Karriererésumé von Mike Sexton sucht seinesgleichen, vor allem wird er bei den Menschen aber aufgrund seiner stets freundlichen, sympathischen und respektvollen Art in Erinnerung bleiben, die ihm zurecht den Spitznamen \"Der Botschafter von Poker\" eingebracht hat. Ein Blick auf den heutigen Twitter-Feed der bekanntesten Köpfe der Szene reicht, um zu sehen, wie viel Anerkennung ihm zuteil wird, weil er als einer der Pioniere so vielen Menschen den Weg zu einer erfolgreichen Laufbahn im Bereich Poker geebnet hat – und das mit einem solch großem Herz.<\/p>
