Bereits vergangene Woche wurde berichtet, dass sich der Gründer der Las Vegas Sands Corp eine Auszeit von seinen Verpflichtungen nehmen würde, um die erneute Behandlung eines Non-Hodgkin-Lymphoms aufzunehmen. Komplikationen bei der Therapie der Krebserkranung haben in dieser Woche jedoch zum Tod des 87-Jährigen geführt.<\/p>

Der Milliardär hatte sich schon in jungen Jahren als geschickter Unternehmer erwiesen und kaufte in den 80er-Jahren unter anderem das Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. 1999 eröffnete er mit dem Venetian eins der bekanntesten Casinos der US-Glücksspielmetropole, in dem sich auch einer der bekanntesten Poker-Cardrooms überhaupt befindet.<\/p>

Die Pokercommunity dürfte das Ableben von Sheldon Adelson aber lediglich zur Kenntnis nehmen. Auch wenn er sein Geld in der Casinoindustrie verdient hat, war er seit jeher einer der engagiertesten Widersacher von Online-Poker<\/strong>.<\/p>

Über seine Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling<\/em> hat er per Lobbyarbeit versucht den US-Kongress zu einer Wiedereinführung des Wire Act zu bewegen, der den Abschluss von Glücksspielen über eine Telefonverbindung untersagt, worunter Online-Poker ebenfalls fallen sollte. Das Unterfangen war nicht erfolgreich und Kritiker Adelsons sahen darin lediglich einen Versuch, Online-Poker in den USA landesweit zu verbieten, um Pokerspieler wieder vermehrt in die Live-Casinos zu bringen.
