Dusty Schmidt<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Dusty Leatherass9<\/a> Schmidt ist im Alter von nur 40 Jahren verstorben. Die Todesursache ist aktuell unklar, es ist jedoch bekannt, dass Schmidt in seinem viel zu kurzen Leben schwere gesundheitliche Probleme bewältigen musste, darunter eine Herzattacke im Alter von nur 23 Jahren.<\/p>

Das hielt ihn jedoch nicht davon ab, sich den berüchtigten Spitznamen 'Leatherass' anzueignen, der sich auf das unfassbare Spielvolumen bezog, das Schmidt als einer der ersten Hardcore-Grinder in der Anfangszeit von Online-Poker abspulen konnte. Lange Zeit hielt er den berüchtigten SuperNova-Elite-Status und wurde auch in das Team von PokerStars aufgenommen.<\/p>

Zwei mittlerweile ikonische Pokerbücher gehen ebenfalls auf Schmidts Kappe: Treat Your Poker Like a Business <\/em>und das mindestens vom Titel bisher unerreichte Don't Listen<\/em> to Phil Hellmuth: Correcting the 50 Worst Piece of Poker Advice<\/em>.<\/p>

Abseits der Pokertische war Dusty als professioneller Golfer aktiv<\/strong>, die eingangs erwähnte Herzattacke verhinderte jedoch den Aufstieg in die PGA Tour in jungen Jahren und Schmidt wandte sich den virtuellen Pokertischen zu. In seinem weiteren Leben konnte er sich aber weiter auf hohem Level beim Golf messen, was auch eine berüchtigte Challenge um $1 Million zur Folge hatte, bei der Dusty es mit jedem aufnehmen wollte, der überzeugt war, ihn beim Golf und Poker schlagen zu können. Niemand hat je die Wette angenommen.<\/p>

Auf einem Golfkurs traf Dusty auch auf PokerStrategy.com-Gastautor Jared Tendler, der ebenfalls als Profigolfer aktiv war, und führte ihn an die Welt von Poker heran. In der Folge wurde Tendler einer der beliebtesten Mentalcoaches der Pokerszene:<\/p>

Auch ich selbst habe Dusty Schmidt nicht zuletzt durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Jared Tendler an The Mental Game of Poker einiges zu verdanken. So kam es auch dazu, dass es Schmidt war, mit dem ich den Black Friday erlebte, als er zu Besuch in Großbritannien war, da wir in dieser Zeit zusammen an einigen Projekten gearbeitet hatten.<\/p>

Als Dusty Schmidt gerade in Eigenregie sein berüchtigtes Buch Treat Your Poker Like a Business<\/em> veröffentlicht hatte, stand das erste Buch von Jared Tendler und mir gerade erst vor dem Abschluss und Dusty stand uns mit Rat und Tat zur Seite, was die Veröffentlichung betraf und eröffnete uns einige Türen, die wohl sonst verschlossen geblieben wären.<\/p>

Nicht zuletzt deswegen werde ich Dusty stets als freundlichen und gutmütigen Menschen in Erinnerung behalten, dem seine Familie das Wichtigste war. Praktisch kein Tag verging, als wir Zeit miteinander verbrachten, an dem er nicht über seine Kinder sprach. Dusty verfügte über eine beneidenswerte Entschlossenheit und einen Tatendrang, der ihm den Sprung von einer abrupt beendeten Profikarriere als Golfer hin zur Laufbahn als Pokerspieler ermöglichte, in der er zu einem der legendärsten Grinder der Boomjahre aufsteigen konnte. Abseits der Tische war er jedoch ein entspannter und bescheidener Mann.<\/p>
