Warren Buffett<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Vor zwei Wochen hat Warren Buffett den Jahresbericht von Berkshire Hathaway veröffentlicht. Darin enthalten war ein Zitat, welches auch eine Überlegung von mir mit Blick auf Poker widerspiegelt. <\/p>

Berkshire Hathaway konnte unter der Leitung Warren Buffetts zuletzt einen Jahresumsatz von $302 Milliarden verbuchen. Der 92-jährige Investor hatte bereits im Teenageralter sein Interesse für die Aktienmärkte entdeckt. <\/p>

In seinem jährlichen Aktionärsbrief äußerte er sich bescheiden über seinen Erfolg. So seien \"nur etwa ein Dutzend Entscheidungen maßgeblich für den Erfolg in seiner Karriere als Investor verantwortlich – alle fünf Jahre eine\". Laut Buffett muss man \"mit der Zeit nur ein paar wenige Glücksgriffe landen, um wahre Wunder zu bewirken\".
<\/strong><\/p>

Mit Beharrlichkeit bis zum Jackpot<\/h2>

Was Warren Buffett beschrieben hat, lässt sich auch ausgezeichnet auf Poker übertragen. Während einer Turniersession sind wir bestrebt, hunderte gute Entscheidungen zu treffen. Dennoch sind es langfristig nur einige wenige Momente, die den Ausschlag geben, ob am Ende der Reise Erfolg oder Misserfolg stehen wird.<\/p>

Seit einer Weile bin ich wie versessen darauf, die Varianz genauer zu verstehen, erst kürzlich habe ich dafür den erstaunlichen Graphen<\/a> eines Turnierspezialisten analysiert: <\/p>

Obwohl dieser Spieler seit 2006 einen eindrucksvollen Profit von mehr als $1 Million verbuchen konnte, kamen auf dem Weg dahin erhebliche Durststrecken zustande. So musste im Rahmen der 55.000 absolvierten Turniere nicht nur eine Breakeven-Phase von satten vier Jahren (!) überwunden werden, sondern auch ein ebenfalls vierjähriger Downswing musste irgendwie verkraftet werden.<\/p>

Was mich an dem Verlauf am meisten beeindruckt, ist die offensichtliche Entschlossenheit des Spielers, das lange Tal der Tränen zu durchschreiten. Genau diese Beharrlichkeit ermöglichte es ihm erst, auch die vier oder fünf enormen Upswings mitzunehmen, darunter auch ein erheblicher Turniersieg mit allein $700.000. <\/p>

Kein Sprint, sondern ein Marathon<\/h2>

Beim Turnierpoker können wenige Momente über das Fortbestehen einer Pokerkarriere entscheiden. So haben schon etliche bis dahin eher unbekannte Spieler nach einem großen Turniersieg die Gelegenheit genutzt, ihren Erfolg auszubauen.<\/p>

Turnierpoker besteht zu einem Großteil aus dem richtigen Umgang mit Verlusten. Die Herausforderung ist tatsächlich, die langen Downswings zu überstehen – bis zum großen Zahltag! Dem obenstehenden Graphen ist zu entnehmen, dass der Spieler zwar an 830 Tagen einen Profit erspielen konnte, allerdings musste er an satten 2.425 Tagen einen Verlust verkraften. Es zeigt sich also sehr deutlich, dass Turnierpoker kein Sprint, sondern ein Marathon ist<\/strong>.
<\/strong><\/p>

Nur mit Beharrlichkeit und Ausdauer lassen sich ewige Durststrecken bei Turnieren überwinden, bis die Karten zu unseren Gunsten fallen und wir einen Sieg davontragen, der es in sich hat. Für viele aber stellt die Aussicht, auch nur eine einzige Turniersession mit Verlust zu beenden, eine schwierige Hürde dar. Daher sind Turnierspieler durchweg gefordert, die eigene Ausdauer und Entschlossenheit unter Beweis zu stellen und die eigenen Bankroll nicht im Tilt zu verballern, bis eines Tages endlich der große Wurf gelingt.<\/p>
