ESPN sichert sich mehrjährigen Deal<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Zu einem Zeitpunkt, an dem Poker in den USA neuen Rückenwind gut gebrauchen kann, hat die WSOP eine bedeutende Partnerschaft bekannt gegeben: ESPN kehrt als offizieller Broadcaster zurück.<\/p>

Im Rahmen eines mehrjährigen Deals wird der Sportsender das Main Event übertragen, inklusive eines dreitägigen Finales zur Prime Time im linearen Fernsehen.<\/p>

Ab dem 2. Juli sind mindestens sechs Tage Live-Berichterstattung geplant, insgesamt sollen rund 100 Stunden Poker ausgestrahlt werden.<\/p>

Am 13. Juli wird das Turnier mit dem Erreichen des Final Tables unterbrochen. Die verbleibenden Spieler gehen anschließend in eine 20-tägige Pause, bevor es vom 3. bis 5. August mit der Entscheidung weitergeht. Während dieser Pause zeigt ESPN speziell produzierte Prime-Time-Folgen, die den Weg zum Finaltisch aufbereiten und gezielt Spannung sowie Aufmerksamkeit aufbauen sollen.<\/p>

Die Übertragungen von PokerGO galten zwar als qualitativ hochwertig, waren jedoch hinter einer Bezahlschranke verborgen, zugänglich vor allem für eingefleischte Pokerfans.<\/p>

Mit ESPN als Partner öffnet sich das Main Event nun wieder einem deutlich breiteren Publikum. Auch Gelegenheitszuschauer können das Geschehen verfolgen, was dem Spiel langfristig neue Spielerinnen und Spieler zuführen könnte.<\/p>

Genau dieser Schritt wurde von vielen Fans erwartet, seit GGPoker die World Series of Poker übernommen hat<\/a>. Mit den finanziellen Möglichkeiten und dem klaren Fokus auf Wachstum schien eine Rückkehr in den Mainstream-TV nur eine Frage der Zeit.<\/p>

Bereits zuvor wurde bestätigt, dass große Teile der WSOP kostenlos auf YouTube übertragen werden<\/a>. Die Kombination aus frei zugänglichem Content und einem starken TV-Partner für das Main Event deutete früh darauf hin, dass ein größerer Medien-Deal bevorsteht. Auch die Verzögerung des Finaltischs wurde in diesem Zusammenhang interpretiert. Nicht zuletzt, um eine Überschneidung mit der Fußball Weltmeisterschaft zu vermeiden.<\/p>

„Die World Series of Poker ist ein globales Phänomen, das weit über Gaming hinausgeht. Unser Ziel ist es, das Event einem möglichst breiten Publikum zugänglich zu machen“, erklärte WSOP-CEO Ty Stewart. „Die Rückkehr zu ESPN, der Heimat der größten Momente seit 1987, ermöglicht es uns, die menschlichen Geschichten hinter dem Main Event besser denn je zu erzählen.“<\/p>

Auch bei ESPN zeigt man sich überzeugt: „Wir freuen uns, die WSOP wieder bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen“, sagte Ashley O’Connor, Vice President Programming & Acquisitions. „Poker lebt von seinen Geschichten, und kaum jemand kann diese Dynamik so gut einfangen wie ESPN.
