Hoy se formarán los últimos nueve<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Esta noche nueve jugadores llegarán a la tierra prometida del poker. Llegar a la mesa final del Main Event de las WSOP se ha convertido en todo un logro, tanto que le hemos dado un nombre, los November Nine.<\/p>

Cuando el concepto de un retraso de cuatro meses en la mesa final se introdujo, pronto el escepticismo se convirtió en entusiasmo cuando quedó claro lo lucrativo que esto podría ser para todos los jugadores en cuestiones de marketing y deals. Antes del Black Friday era bastante común que los November Nine obtuvieran deals de sponsor de seis y siete cifras e incluso más en bonos. <\/strong><\/p>

Si bien la gente sigue consiguiendo deals de publicidad en la final, hay mucha diferencia con lo que obtenían antes del Black Friday. No cabe duda de que la promesa de sponsors lucrativos era lo que comenzó el concepto de los November Nine pero ahora... ¿sigue mereciendo la pena retrasarlo cuatro meses?<\/p>

Una de las principales razones del retraso es que los nueve jugadores pudieran ir en tour por el circuito de poker, promocionándose a ellos mismos y a los eventos durante los siguientes cuatro meses. También era la oportunidad de promocionar las World Series of Poker Europe y después las World Series of Poker Asia Pacific.<\/p>

Por desgracia, no veo que el engranaje siga funcionando igual que en los días cuando PokerStars y Full Tilt dominaban la publicidad<\/strong> mediante los parches que se ponían los jugadores. Solía estar claro que los November Niners irían a las WSOPE, pero el año pasado casi ninguno apareció en la WSOP APAC.<\/p>

Cada año que pasa oímos menos y menos de los November Nine durante ese transcurso de los cuatro meses.<\/p>

Es cierto que los finalistas suelen atraer a la prensa local durante esos meses. En particular cuando alguien fuera de USA llega a la final, les proporciona atención de su país, lo que a menudo suele ser positivo para la demográfica del poker. <\/p>

Sin un sponsor y todo lo que viene asociado al retraso, me parece que para los jugadores hay poco beneficio en esperar esos cuatro meses.<\/p>

he entrevistado a muchos post-Black Friday November Niners durante el retraso y, a excepción de unos pocos, la mayoría dicen que hubieran preferido seguir jugando en lugar de parar.<\/strong> Las razón es porque obviamente estaban jugando y runeando bien y les da la sensación de que pueden perder ese momentum.<\/p>

Hay algo que ha mejorado cada año desde los November Nine, y es la calidad de la retransmisión. Tanto si crees que el poker es un deporte como si no, cuesta negar que el WSOP Main Event parece un gran deporte cuando sale en televisión esa mesa final.<\/strong><\/p>

El retraso de cuatro meses da a los productores de TV tiempo para crear una historia sobre los jugadores, muchos de los cuales suelen ser desconocidos. Esto añade categoría a la retransmisión para los fans casuales que ven el poker por primera vez.<\/p>

Quizá lo más importante de la retransmisión es que el retraso da a los jugadores tiempo de sobra para llevarse a sus amigos y familia para que les vean jugar por millones.<\/strong> Cada jugador tiene su propio rail, generalmente con camisetas personalizadas, cánticos y un montón de animación para cada bote que juegan. Esta experiencia hace que el Main Event sea único en el poker, es un verdadero deporte para los espectadores.<\/p>

Por último, los November Nine han pasado las suficientes veces como para que se haya convertido en una marca propia. Siempre serás un November Niner al igual que siempre serás un campeón del EPT. Eso y el premio monetario, es una gran ganancia para aquellos que no lo ganan pero que llegan a la mesa final.<\/p>

Así que quizá ya no asegura un sponsor, pero ese retraso de cuatro meses ha ayudado a crear una de las experiencias de deporte más únicas para los espectadores. Y eso solo en sí mismo es suficiente para mantener los November Nine.<\/p>
