Con 53 años, Phillips es también el jugador de más edad de la mesa final. A pesar de ello, se considera a sí mismo el más inexperto entre los Nueve de Noviembre, al menos en lo que a póquer se refiere. Desde su temprana infancia estuvo en contacto con las cartas en general. \"Mi familia jugaba todo, desde bridge a canasta.\" Más adelante, Phillip jugaba principalmente BlackJack en el casino, pero recién comenzó con el póquer hace unos cuatro años.<\/p>

\nLos juegos de cash iniciales fueron seguidos por unas pocas apariciones en torneos del Circuito WSOP, donde alcanzó dos mesas finales. El Evento Principal de las WSOP fue su primera experiencia en al gran escena del póquer internacional. Phillips consiguió clasificar a través de un satélite de $200 en el Casino Harrah's de San Luis, algo que elevó enormemente su ROI.<\/p>

Cada uno de los nueve finalistas recibió alrededor de $900.000. El ganador cobrará más de nueve millones en total.<\/p>

En los últimos meses, Phillips acumuló algo más de experiencia en vivo en el torneo High Roller que se jugó en paralelo al EPT Londres. Esperemos que no sea un mal augurio el hecho de que allí resultara el chico de la burbuja en todas las ocasiones. Su mentor es, al parecer, Roy Winston, que lo prepara para la final.<\/p>

También Phil Gordon ofreció algunas horas de entrenamiento al socialmente comprometido Phillips, en recompensa por su donación del uno por ciento de sus ganancias a la campaña \"Hazle un Badbeat al cáncer\". Cuando se le preguntó si renunciaría a su trabajo como consultor en una compañía de transporte en caso de ganar, Phillips respondió que no podría hacerlo, sencillamente por la razón de que todavía tiene en marcha algunas apuestas laterales con gente que cree que él hará precisamente eso. Por otro lado, Phillips tampoc se ve a si mismo como un futuro profesional del póquer. \"Todavía considero al póquer como un pasatiempo. Si Phillips gana, sería sin duda uno de los finalistas más aceptables para todos los involucrados.
