Entre la gran cantidad de gente que colmaba el teatro del Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino de Las Vegas, tenían un lugar privilegiado Daniel Negreanu, Jamie Gold -campeón de 2006-, Jeff Madsen, Chris Jesus Ferguson, Barry Greeinstein, y Erick Lindgren, que en una ceremonia previa a la presentación de los finalistas recibió la Harley Davidson customizada que ganó como jugador del año de las WSOP.<\/p>

Inmediatamente después pudieron ingresar Peter Eastgate<\/b><\/a> e Ivan Demidov<\/b><\/a>, rodeados de un festival de luces y de la ovación de sus seguidores incondicionales. Para ellos lo más importante era sentarse a la mesa y terminar por fin lo que habían comenzado casi cuatro meses atrás, y por ello se relajaron cuando Michael Buffer -el presentador de boxeo más conocido de Las Vegas- dio la orden de ¡Barajar y repartir!<\/i> con su particular cadencia y timbre de voz.<\/p>

\nA pesar de la gran ventaja con la que comenzó el danes Eastgate -el conteo oficial de anoche le dio 80.300.000<\/b> fichas contra 56.600.000<\/b> del ruso Demidov-, hubo que esperar casi cuatro horas y un centenar de manos para confirmarlo como el nuevo Campeón de las World Series of Poker, y también el ganador más joven del preciado brazalete de oro del Evento Principal.<\/p>

El juego comenzó en el nivel 37, con ciegas de 300.000\/600.000 y antes de 75.000. Ya en la primera mano hubo lucha, con más de 12 millones de puntos en juego, pero tres reyes en la mesa y una gran apuesta de 8 millones de Demidov convencieron a Eastgate de descartar su mano.<\/p>

Poco después las ciegas subieron, y Demidov se hizo con un bote muy importante con unas dobles parejas que emparejaron el conteo de fichas, y haciendo que sus seguidores estallaran en festejos. Eastgate ahora llevaba una ventaja de sólo 73 millones a 63 millones. Sin embargo, en las manos siguientes Eastgate recuperó su ventaja con un juego agresivo y un poco de ayuda del azar, ya que en un par de ocasiones sus faroles conectaban en las últimas cartas para desazón de Demidov. A dos horas de comenzada la final, Eastgate ya superaba los cien millones de fichas.<\/p>

Para ese entonces ya se jugaba el nivel 39, donde las ciegas tenían un valor de 500.000\/1.000.000, y los antes eran de 150.000. Según el director del torneo Jack Effel, esta fue la primera vez en la historia de las WSOP que se llega a tamañas ciegas. Mientras tanto, Eastgate y Demidov se repartían los botes sin pasar más allá del preflop en la mayoría de las manos.<\/p>

Un bote clave fue uno de 44 millones que se llevó Eastgate con de mano, que se convirtieron en color en el turn, mientras las de Demidov no conseguían nada. En ese momento Eastgate estiró su ventaja a 110 millones sobre 27 del ruso.<\/p>

Por último, ya avanzada la noche de Las Vegas, llegó la mano número 274. Eastgate completó el millón desde el botón, y Demidov pasó en la ciega grande. El flop llegó . Demidov pasó, y Eastgate apostó 1,25 millones. El ruso pensó unos instantes para finalmente pagar, y ambos vieron el del turn. Demidov optó una vez más por el check, y Eastgate volvió a atacar el bote con 2 millones de puntos. Demidov contó sus fichas y resubió a 6 millones, comprometiendo la mitad de su stack. Eastgate pensó varios segundos, mientras no se escuchaba un sonido en el teatro. Cuando el danés finalmente vio, todo el mundo se puso de pie para no perderse nada de la mano, que parecía ser la decisiva.<\/p>

En el river llegó el . Al instante Demidov se anunció en all in, siendo aceptado de inmediato por Demidov. El ruso enseñó , para doble par, y entonces toda la atención recayó en el danés. Antes de verse las cartas de Eastgate se vio su sonrisa de oreja a oreja, ya que con llevaba escalera desde el turn. ¡Peter Eastgate era el nuevo Campeón de las WSOP!<\/b>
