Hey,
Depending on your raise size, you give the players different pot odds to call.
Please see the following table for some equity examples:
openraise size | equity BB everyone fold | equity SB if BB fold
6 | 40% | 42%
5 | 38% | 41%
4 | 35% | 39%
3.5 | 33% | 38%
3 | 31% | 36%
2.5 | 27% | 33%
2 | 22% | 30% |
As you can see, if you raise higher the equity for the caller must be higher as well. Please be aware this doesn't include any thoughts about implied odds, playability, 3 bet stuff or pot building.
However raises between 3 and 4 big blind seems to be the best compromise for the original raiser.
Cheers,
Hannes
